    Excel help

    I formatted my cells for fractions but now it's reducing them. Is there any way to make it so that it won't reduce them?

    Format the cell as Text before typing anyting in it... but then I'm not sure you can use it in any calculations.

        Why don't you want them reduced? I thought you were always supposed to reduce fractions if you could.

          It's for payroll accounting. I'm a ding dong. I went ahead and changed everything to decimals instead of fractions.

          I'm not 100% sure which way the teacher wants it

              Looks like ch33e3r's link should work for you and you could use 100 for your denominator, since it is money/accounting.

                I had found ch33s3rs link before but for some reason, it still kept reducing it I'll leave it the way I have it and ask the teacher during our live lesson this evening.

                But THANK YOU TONS for all of your help everyone!

                  Right click > format cell > set to fraction for those 1/2 1/4 etc if you want it that way, and see the bit on the right 'Type'
                  You need to set that accordingly

                  if you set it to 1/2's it will only do 0 1/2 1
                  Make sure its set correct, if its for accounting one hunderdths is maybe what you want.
                  But tbh number/currency/accounting is better for numbers and set the decimal place to what ever you need it.
                  so
                  2 = hh.ff
                  6 = hh.ffffff

                  if you want to do something with fractions, try using the rounding functions to control how it changes it, there is 3
                  round <.5 down else up
                  roundup always up
                  rounddown always down

                  ie
                  round(6.84376329,3) = 6.844
                  roundup(6.84376329,3) = 6.844
                  rounddown(6.84376329,3) = 6.843

                  I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!

                    Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
