Last night my wife's grandfather passed away he was 94. He survived an entire tour as a B24 pilot based somewhere in Italy. He didn't talk about the war that much be when he did he always made it a point that the oil fields in Africa were more heavily defended then Berlin itself. He was one of theses people that had a unique perspective on life which could only come from watching your friends get blown apart at altitude or by being shot down. He will be missed.

Oddly enough I've had contact with another WWII bomber crew member. It turns out my neighbor across the street was a ball turret gunner in a B17.Comment
