    Testing out- opinions please

I have the option to test out of a class. It's rather tempting but I'm not sure if I want to. What is everyone's thoughts?

Here's what it says if I do:

NOTE: To Test-out of this class, you must pass this exam at 90% or above before the first Friday of the first week of the class.
Information about Testing Out of a Class
    1. This class will not count as attempted credit as far as financial aid is concerned.
    2. This will not reduce the amount of tuition a student owes like a transfer credit would.
    3. This does not hurt or help your G.P.A. A "PE" is NOT a grade. It is "Pass-by-Exam".
The first item is the most crucial. Because PE?s don?t count as attempted credit for financial aid, you may need to be put in another course to work on that module if necessary. (This is important because you could potentially fall short of the required attempted credits for a Pell or FA disbursement, and you do not want that to happen.)
In addition, if you test out of too many courses, thus shortening the length of your program, this will also hurt you financially. If your program length is shortened, it reduces the number of financial aid and Pell disbursements you receive, and you will end up owing more out of your own pocket.
If you pass with 90% or more

    * You will receive a "PE" on your transcript.
    * You will not need to do any of the work in this class for the rest of this class module, but I encourage you to log in regularly.
    * After you have completed this, please confirm on your transcript that you have a "PE" for this class. Notify me if this is not completed.
So go on, go on be your own, go on be your own star!

It depends on if it is a subject you like. If it is a subject you love and you know it will be an easy A, I think I'd rather take the class.

When I was in college I took the test to place out of Spanish III immediately after taking my Spanish II exam so info was fresh on my mind... passed the test and didn't have to take Spanish III. Was a good day as I struggled with I and II (made A's but still a struggle).

The class is Solutions Concepts. One of the reasons why I was thinking about is I have a accounting principles now too. Doing two classes in four weeks can be interesting, especially if you struggle with it. My struggle w/ my accounting fundamentals got me a B.

Inversely if you need the GPA boost take the class and get an easy A. My senior year of college i just needed credit to graduate (and to be covered under the parents insurance). So i took Spanish I (Ive had a couple years of spanish) and got the easy A

I'd say it depends on two factors: financial aid and your confidence that you can earn an A in the course if you were to actually take it.

If you're concerned with financial aid in any way then perhaps you should take the course. If not, then just ignore this as a factor.

Then there's your confidence that you could receive an A in the course. A good GPA will look good on your resume, where each tenth of a point can count. Though the funny thing is that you can only test out of the class if you can earn a 90% on the exam. If you can earn a 90% on the exam without even taking the class, then you could have easily made an A in the class. But testing out won't earn you an A that counts toward your GPA.

Overall, I'd say take the course unless one of your primary concerns is financial aid

I thank you all for your opinions but I think I'm going to take the class. No, it won't affect my financial aid any but it won't make my GPA go up any and that is what I'm after. I have a 3.69 now and I just finished two classes w/ A's. I've been shooting for the Dean's list but I missed it by one point last time

Please understand that taking Spanish classes in the U.S. in no way prepares you to speak it with anyone for whom it is their first language. My teacher in school compared it to taking a class on Shakespearian english and attempting to hold a conversation with someone in modern day Texas.

I failed Spanish twice. Once in high school, again in college.

Me and foreign languages don't mix well.

Spanish is the language of Spain, kinda.
Tex-Mex is totally different from border land speech.
A friend grew up in the middle of Mexico, and had a hard time understanding ANY of the hispanics here in Texas.

Universal problem in such huge countries as India and China, as the dialects differ substantially from one end to the other.

I'm with you Lady, take the course because it will boost your confidence, Easy, and be a FUN course to take. Win Win
