    New Scope

Well, last weekend I took the plunge and bought me a better scope for my Rem 700. It's a Nikon 5-20x44 Monarch III.

The Nikon rep. was at one of our local sports stores and I stopped by and told him what I was looking and I got it at a reasonable price. I could have matched it online, but after my $30 main in rebate it'll have cost about $495. Still a little too steep for my blood but very nice light gather. I believe it is just as good as a $1500 Leopold

Nice scope, DougBob! I've got Nikon's on both my bolts (and my camera)...and I'd have to say you're right in that Leupold's got nothing on them, except price.

Although I have to inform you all Skud, DB and Apache that you are all heretics. To my eye the Leupold's have the best and brightest sight picture not to mention the warranty.

Not enough difference to justify 3 times the price. Unless you you are a professional sniper.

I have a 4x12 Leapold on my .270 , and happy with it.

Nikon didn't HAVE a scope back then that competed.

Well I didn't spend three times the price I got a 4x18-40 MKII in Mil Dot for 600 bucks or so. Granted the MKII are an older product line but, still excellent. I love that scope

You guys have sparked my curiosity, my father has been competing in an F-Class league recently and he is always looking for the best bang for your buck. I will be asking what brand he is using and after reading theses posts I would bet It's a Nikon.

If I had money to burn, I'd throw something like this on my SPR: http://www.usoptics.com/product.php?partnumber=SN3-1760 ...but I don't and my land is hilly/woody enough that I'd be lucky to find a 200 yard max shot (right from the backyard towards the lake, lol) anyway, so it'd be hard to justify this kind of ching.

Bah for that much money you'd think they would make the parallax adjust on a third knob

I'm kinda partial to the Nightforce scopes but, no way will I ever spend that much

Well, I checked again and it seems the majority agrees the Nikon is a better bang for the buck as Duke says. I also see some believe the Leopold has lost quality in their len's over the years and scopes like the Nikon Monarch and Bushnell Elite 4200 series are better value purchases

I was just raised old school and can't see spending a tremendous amount of money on a scope of the higher price range. I know there are a lot off different features and such, but the price of this one was about my ceiling.

The bottom line is at dawn or dusk will I be able to make out the target as well as possible and take the shot, so I believe the answer is yes, short of a high powered gen 4 night vision scope

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
