so, I've been out for a while. Took a break while I started school. I was thinking about getting some 2142 action going. I seem to have lost my disk. So since I have to at least buy 2142 anyway, and now that Cain added COD4 and removed 2142, I was wondering what the concesus was between the two of them. Mind you I am quite familiar with 2142, and love it.

IMO, 2142 was a better game while it lasted. The radically different weapons, vehicles, and strategies meant you could always be doing something different. I really liked the level of teamwork in it. However, now that it's gotten old I've moved on to CoD4, which is still very fun. It's just a little more repetative than 2142, so only time will tell how long it'll hold my interest. I really fell in love with the large map size and vehicles in 2142...

If 2142 had the feel, polish, stability and plethora of quality maps like COD4 has, I'd venture a guess we'd still be playing it here.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. 2142 was an example of a great concept which got neutered (mostly due to bugs) during implementation in order to reach an arbitrary deadline. As a result, people enjoyed it for a while, but the nagging problems pushed most people away. But then again, that's exactly how EA wants to run that division of its business: get you to play it for a while, then move on to the next thing when it becomes clear that it is not being properly supported.
I WANTED 2142 to be a better game. Unfortunately, DICE/EA decided it didn't need to be

CoD4 without a doubt. If you think otherwise, how much crack are you smoking when you play COD4 or 2142? That game was ridiculous and I only bought/played it because I wanted to stick to the community.

To clarify my above statement a bit, CoD4 is a better programmed game by far, produced by a better studio. However, as far as game play goes, I think 2142 is a little bit ahead. As a few people have said, it had even more potential, but I don't think it was a complete flop in regards to living up to what it could be.

Aside from them both being guys with guns they really are not very simular games. 2142 was methodical, squad based, lots of vehicles and the different classes played alot different from each other. COD has far less teamwork but has absolutely no down time. Take all the pulse pounding moments from a month of 2142 and you probably get that in and hour of COD. 2142 was strategic whereas COD is mostly twitch.
COD is way less buggy and not nearly as frustrating.
COD looks way better.

Not to mention the fact that it cost Cain very little to run a COD4 server, while 2142 Titan w/64 players cost upwards of $300 a month

So what is the upside to having your own server aside from a home field for your friends/clan? Seems like $300 is pretty steep.
