I prefer 2142 over CoD4. I got tired of titan and started playing conquest.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. 2142 was an example of a great concept which got neutered (mostly due to bugs) during implementation in order to reach an arbitrary deadline. As a result, people enjoyed it for a while, but the nagging problems pushed most people away. But then again, that's exactly how EA wants to run that division of its business: get you to play it for a while, then move on to the next thing when it becomes clear that it is not being properly supported.

I WANTED 2142 to be a better game. Unfortunately, DICE/EA decided it didn't need to be
Well said. 2142 had huge potential that it was never able to live up to. A real shame.

COD4 isn't nearly as epic in scope, but it's just so well done in every aspect that IMHO it completely humbles anything in the Battlefield series. Plus, as a dedicated ground-pounder, it's nice to get away from vehicles and the problems they cause (team-killing, vehicle-whoring, etc.), and just get back to shooting people.

Granted I never played BF 2142 but compared to other FPSs I have played, CoD4 is probably my favorite.

You need to play a better mode if you think CoD has less teamwork than 2142. TDM =/= the norm. Find a good hardcore HQ/SAB/DOM server and revel in the glory that is CoD4.

Obviously 2142 has more teamwork than cod4. In 2142 you can form actual squads and spawn on your squad leader. There is a commander that can direct the squads around the map and supply fire support as well as resupply the soldiers. A good pilot/gunner working together in a gunship can dominate. A good tank driver who has an engineer as a machine gunner to cover his back and do repairs can dominate.

I play HQ and Sabotage far more than TDM because there is some objective other than just kill the other team. But frankly you are limited to get this/kill that/defend here. How does that compare to attacking a core in a squad of a recon to set the explosives, an assault guy to heal and revive you, a support guy to resupply you and set up the sentry gun to cover the door and a commander dropping in a uav that you requested?

Ironically, I've had more problems with CoD4 than I did with 2142... Although I seem to have unusually bad luck with this game.

To clarify my above statement a bit, CoD4 is a better programmed game by far, produced by a better studio. However, as far as game play goes, I think 2142 is a little bit ahead. As a few people have said, it had even more potential, but I don't think it was a complete flop in regards to living up to what it could be.

I think 2142 had its strong points, but the feel of the game is so much better in COD4. COD4 just has that extra polish that makes it a rewarding experience every round.

People have said 2142 was more tactical and COD4 is more twich: I agree, but only for TDM. That's why I'm still wanting for a second mixed gametype COD4 server. Each gametype has increasing levels of tactics vs. twitch.
Domination - leans towards twitch like TDM - just run to the CP and cap/hold it.
HQ - a little closer to tactics because once you cap the headquarters, your only goal is to defend when the enemy is only on attack.
Sabotage - even more tactical, because while you can go around killing people, it takes some strategy to work the bomb up to the zone and plant.
Search and destroy - all tactics. If you die, you have to wait. I've had some intense battles in S&D, and while it's not for everyone, the maps are shorter than the other game modes. Plus you get a lot more points for every kill.

I guess what I'm saying is COD4 is even better because it -can- be tactical. I played on a mixed gametype server when I first got COD4 before Cain started a server and it was so much fun I thought "who would ever run a TDM server? That's just so vanilla compared to this..." I had no idea the game would go the direction it did (mostly TDM)

I guess when push comes to shove I haven't booted up 2142 since cod4 came out and thats about the bottom line. I had to edit my last post because I realized I had used past tense all the way through as if 2142 was gone. Now it's just one of the icons on the screen that doesn't get clicked anymore.

COD has far less teamwork but has absolutely no down time. Take all the pulse pounding moments from a month of 2142 and you probably get that in and hour of COD. 2142 was strategic whereas COD is mostly twitch.

COD is way less buggy and not nearly as frustrating.

                                COD looks way better.
COD does require Teamwork, it just doesn't require it in deathmatch mode.
