Worm gear drive... 5 sec up and 10 sec down. (When I installed it, the 5 sec down I thought was unsafe, as we have pets... I adjusted the down speed (its settable, up is not))

Never thought of the door as a kitty killer

Lol, I don't have a garage yet but you could always disable it and have her open it manually for a week or two.

I'd take away her car keys and buy her a monthly bus pass...
