I've seen people do similar. My brother was in a a band. We had a friend who was a PGE lineman. A couple of times at very large parties where the house panel was very very old and wouldn't support the load we needed we'd call our friend. Who basically had a tool that had two enormous clips and a separate breaker panel. We even had the cops show up and they didn't even bat an eye....
