    Sleep Paralysis and Lucid Dreaming

Hey guys, the other day I was having a terrible dream and I realized that I was having a dream, so I decided I would wake myself up (which is something I realized I could do since I was very young). When I "woke" I felt I was conscious at last, but I could not move, and I could not open my eyes. I struggled, and in a few seconds I could move. I researched this and I came up this! Sleep Paralysis!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

Actually thinking back on it, I can remember this happening on a few occasions, I just probably didn't remember it. I probably just remembered it that time because I was very scared. As I researched further... I came upon this website on sleep paralysis, and how it can be used a tool to have an OBE (Out of body experience) or a lucid dream. (where you control your dreams, and you are aware you are dreaming)

Now I haven't had the sleep paralysis in about 2 months, but a technique of lucid dreaming is to tell yourself right before you sleep that you have to remember that you actually are dreaming. (when you have lucid dreams, you can almost always remember them quite well). So I did that last night, and low and behold I had I dream and remembered to tell myself that I was dreaming. This had been the first time that I had actually remembered without me realizing it was a dream without me realizing it while I was being killing or something really bad was happening and I needed to wake myself up. So, yeah, i was a novice, and I told myself to float. I started to go up...... and meh. Woke up. Damn it. lol

So I'm trying it again tonight, and I'm quite excited. I can't believe I've never heard of this before. Research it guys... maybe you can do it, maybe you can't. You need to research it though and see what works for you. And if you have had sleep paralysis before, you can probably do it.

What do you all think ?

While I've never had this experience, I've had dreams about my future, such as when i was little, I had a dream about me moving to a new house and I described the dream to my mother and shortly after, we moved intot he home I described. The only thing is, there were no flying trains as i described in my dream but I was to the exact detail with the house and neiborhood!

Explain that one to the doctors. And I have yet been able to predict the Damn lottery numbers!

      Any meditaters out there ?

The technique I mentioned above, setting the intention of remembering that you are dreaming is called the "easiest". Try it tonight guys.

actually, i have had quite a few of these, they seem to happen very often to me...

ill just be dreaming, but then i will realize that i'm dreaming and i can control myself and my actions, and sometimes others..pretty cool

also, i've noticed that whenever this happens, i have control over myself, but its as if im watching from a 'third person' view

btw, a while ago, i would randomly have dreams, and im them i would be falling, either from a building or some other high place, and i knew i was falling, and when i hit the ground, i would feel a slight pain and jolt awake....

              Ever have Deja vu ?

I get it all the time. I will dream of something when I am asleep and a couple days later I will see it. Its only petty stuff... but it makes me laugh when I see it.

Pretty cool sounding stuff, but I've never experienced it myself.

Although I'm not liking the whole "waking up" part. Let me know when you find something that turns the clock back a few hours to give me some extra sleep.

My mother has sleep paralysis pretty bad. She started having them after I was born, and when I turned 18 I started having them too. Pretty scary stuff. Feels like you cannot wake up. I remember first time it happened to me I was asleep on the couch and someone turned on the bathroom light. My eyes were open and I could see light coming from the door, but couldn't fully wake up.

Mom has pretty violent ones where we have to shake her awake, and when she does wake up, she's screaming.

I always wondered if it was something genetic.

It probably is genetic man. Wow, i feel bad for you guys. Have you ever tried not fighting it, but calming yourself? Try researching it, I've found several websites on how you can sort of "go with the flow" when you experience it, even control the hallucinations that go with it.

Luckily for me, I am able to break it in several seconds, and theres not much time to be afraid. I really feel bad for you and your mom, but really, research about it online!

                      Yeah I've had lucid dreaming.

I tried stabbing myself with a knife, and it didn't hurt...I grabbed women's backsides and boobs in my dream, and they didn't get or slap me, it was pretty fun.

                      I even shop lifted!!

I had an OBE once, though I'm not too sure since I wasn't in my own body... :P

lol but seriously, it was a very crazy "dream" if it was...

                          Tony... that sounds pretty fun...

here are several induction techniques into lucid dreams... many of them are along the lines of meditation, and letting your "mind" and your "body" fall asleep, but "you" are still conscious.
