A 22-year-old Madison man was arrested Monday after he hit another car, brandished a tire iron, fled the scene, veered into oncoming traffic and crashed his car into a snow bank.
Matthew R. Simmons was arrested on tentative charges of disorderly conduct and use of a dangerous weapon after he approached a 56-year-old woman's vehicle and threatened to kill her, according to a Madison Police Department news release. The incident started in the 3300 block of Chicago Avenue and ended in the 200 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue.
According to the report, Simmons crashed into the woman's vehicle after trying to pass her on the left. The woman followed Simmons to North Fair Oaks Avenue where he veered into oncoming traffic and got stuck in a snow-covered area, the release said. He got out of his vehicle holding the tire iron and approached the woman's vehicle threatening to kill her.
"When Simmons was questioned about his actions, he stated he was in a hurry because he needed to go to the restroom and that was why he did not stop at the accident scene," the release said. He also admitted to striking the woman's vehicle.
