Yet another of our 'greatest generation' called to serve in a higher position.

If you have ever met or talked with a veteran of WWII, you get an immediate understanding of how humble each survivor is, for what they did to protect our freedom is far and above what today's generations can offer.

When the term 'hero' is bandied about in today's media for random acts of kindness, none of the survivors think they are heroes, choosing to place that tag on the ones that never came home. We owe each and every one of them a huge debt of gratitude.

I heard about this on the radio this morning. He actually live outside Hershey, PA, which is about 15 minutes from me, maybe a little further depending on what side of the town he was on. I wonder if there's going to be some public memorial service.

During the interview segment of the miniseries Band of Brothers, Winters quoted a passage from a letter he received from Sergeant Mike Ranney, "I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day when he said, 'Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said 'No… but I served in a company of heroes…'"

It is very sad. I just re-watched, for about the fifth time; "Band of Brothers". Each time I watch it I cry a bit and can't help but think about the few who are left.

While it is an excellant production; the comments by Mr. Winters and other Easy Company soldiers are more priceless than the portrayal. I'd suspect that there are many so more moments from those interviews which absolutely need to be preserved and shown.

A "company of heroes" indeed. A tearful salute to the memory of Major Winters and the entirety of the Allied forces who fought and died to save the world from tyranny, bigotry and oppression.

If you liked the HBO Series, read the book. It is much better and Dick Winters figures promenently in it.

The book is good, but don't go overboard Apache. Band of Brothers, the HBO series, is incredible. If it were strung together into a movie, it would be my favorite movie ever. It's just very well done.
