Australia to be hit by new storm

Looks like the Aussies aren't having too great a time at the moment. Firstly the mass flooding, then the Cat1 cyclone not long after, now there's a Cat5 cyclone about to hit them sometime in the next 8 hours. It's reported to be the largest Cat5 storm to hit Queensland in history.

The storm is currently 370 miles wide and wind speed is expected to reach 183mph!

"Authorities say people should not panic and remain in their home if their roof lifts off during Yasi".

    Poor poor Queensland.

    What a monster.

edit: Just heard that the weather station used to track storms heading into Australia from the Pacific has been destroyed 24 hours after being evacuated. The maximum land height of Willis Island is 30ft above sea level. I imagine it was completely underwater.

On the 2nd of February 2011, sometime shortly after 08:30 AEST, the eye of Cyclone Yasi moved directly over Willis Island as a Category 5 storm. A wind speed of 185 kilometres per hour was recorded by the weather station prior to a failure of the radar and wind speed equipment.

Just come across this great image. It's a radar image of the cyclone taken just before landfall that's been overlayed onto Europe.

            Wow!!!!

As if life in Australia couldn't get any worse, now residents are being warned to stay away from giant birds "with claws that can disembowel a human on the hunt for food"
