What exactly happens during Mardi Gras? Because all I know is women revealing their goodies for beads. Anything else? Not that it isn't a good reason for pervs to show up.

honestly... its really nothing like that for locals... if you wanna see boobs go to bourbon street. other than that... its a very festive atmosphere.

I know BlackArrow has been here before and can pretty much agree with me on that.

If you have time read this article. It really puts into words of what the real New Orleans is like.

i'd image its very festive for locals and adult vistors,
but for young ones its hyped from my pov
as a reason to get drunk and catch something that you'd only show a doctor, or get a phone call about in 9mths

I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!

I went to Mardi Gras once, and just visited Bourbon Street a bunch of times when I was stationed in Pensacola for a year. Good times.

Having lived in South Louisiana...I can tell you it's any excuse for a party. Especially this time of year. Lake Charles already had Contraband Days celebration. (<<Which is the better party) Then they sober up just in time for Mardi Gras. After Ash Wednesday it settles down a little, but there are plenty of other smaller local festivals to go to. I think New Orleans is over-hyped a bit. The Police roll up the sidewalks after midnight on Fat Tuesday.

The good thing is it's easy to get into popular resturants on Ash Wednesday because of the fasting.
