I hope the Navy is doing everything it can to help. My friend in Nagasaki still hasn't responded yet. I hope it's just a case of communication failure or maybe he is already working on relief for the earthquake/tsunami victims and is too busy to answer.

Man it was a thought that went through my head please except my apologies if I offended. This is truly a great loss of life and I in no way meant to demean that. My heart does go out to the Japanese in their moment of suffering

Hearing news that 2 meltdowns have occured.

They haven't "melted" yet but they aren't in good condition either. At least one reactor is gonna be a right off.

Still hearing that 2 have slightly melted however the reactors are not leaking at the moment.

Actually I heard that they are detecting Cesium in the air around No.1 reactor. Makes sense. They were pumping sea water into one reactor. Cesium reacts violently with cold water. That may have caused the explosion and the resulting Cesium detection.

Also heard that because power was lost, the cooling system shut down. Also the diesel generators failed and they had to go to batteries. That's not good.

That's an incredible video Juneau. Mother nature can be a real Bee-yatch sometimes. I think this will go down as the worst disaster ever in terms of property loss. (Hopefully not as much in terms of life loss.)

Finally heard from my friend in Japan. He's OK. He's a civilian working for the Navy. (program analyst)

A bad few hours. New earthquake hitting tokyo, the containment building around reactor 3 at fukushima 1 has exploded, 2,000 bodies have been found on 2 shorelines of the northeast, and what appears to be a false alarm of another tsumani on its way after the water depth off the coast lowered by 5 meters.

I heard today that they are having trouble keeping the fuel cores covered and that they were actually exposed a couple of times. That's not good! They also said that they appeared to be melting. Holy crap. In the movie "The China Syndrome" they came close to but not quite exposing the core. That was supposed to be a "scare the hell out of you" movie to make everyone hate nuclear power. We are past that point in Japan on not 1, but 4 power plants.

It's starting to look like the third explosion breached the containment vessel of reactor 2. That's worst case scenario business right there.

Not sure about the breach but a meltdown looks to be happening. 'It' is really starting to hit the fan. Just hope that the vessels do their job.

They have upgraded the Quake to 9.0. That is a tenfold increase over 8.9.
