For sale - gently used aircraft carrier

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110328/...ftcarrier_sale

Only 621k+ nautical miles. Oil changed at regular intervals. Shows some small scuffs and scratches from battles near Bosnia and Iraq. Must be able to provide proper mooring. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY !!!

Oh sweet !! Now this would make a great mega yacht for some Saudi interested in patrolling the Somalian waters.

Yep, no included Sea Harriers or other fun toys to take advantage of. Troop, toss em a lowball offer and hope for the best. If you do manage to get it, can I be part time bridge officer ??

This I'd pay to see. Or rather, you trying to get the thing past that dam just north of the Maryland border.

This country owns pretty much next to nothing these days so it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that we're selling off our naval fleet.

Once this is gone the UK will officially have no aircraft carriers. But that doesn't matter because we're selling/sold all of our famous Sea Harriers too.

Argentina should try for the Falklands again. I can guarantee they'd have no issue taking it this time.

The UK, is becoming less of a world power on a daily basis and it's sickening.

                  Monday 21 March 2011
The Libyan conflict has exposed the gaping hole left by Government cuts to Britain's sea-based air power, former senior Navy officers tell Channel 4 News.

The decision to scrap the UK's last aircraft carrier, the Ark Royal, along with the Harrier jump jet - the last plane capable of flying from the decks of ships - has been strongly criticised by ex-RAF and Navy commanders.

The lack of a sea-based strike option initially left the RAF with no choice but to fly sorties from bases in the UK, sending Tornado jets on 3,000-mile round trips at a cost of ?200,000 per aircraft, according to estimates from analysts.

"The advantage of being 40 miles off the coast is that the aircraft will be on deck alert in ten minutes."

"What we are seeing is that the Americans have got what is essentially an aircraft carrier off the coast. The French will have one in a short time. The best we can do is operate 600 miles away.

"You just can't do it. You can't manage a combat air patrol from that distance. We struggled in the Falklands when we were 150 miles off the coast."
                  Go UK Go!

If you guys still buy some F-35Bs, you'll have short carrier-capable jets again. And you've got two larger Queen Elizabeth-class carriers under construction and have apparently shifted your F-35 buy to the -C models, the catapult/carrier variants.

But there is a nice little window there for Argentina until they enter service.

Maybe we should start the lend/lease thing again like we did in WWII.

Maybe those pirates from a few threads back could pick it up on the cheap. It would look pretty awesome sporting a Jolly Rodger!
