    Space travel just not possible?

Forget space travel: its just a dream | COSMOS magazine

Kinda bleak when you think about it, but true. We need to come up with some better energy sources, or make a better way to get in to space, where we can then send out voyages from.

That's actually what I was referring to mapes, just didn't want to get too detailed in the discussion there. And we might be getting to a point with current materials where we can build one. But where do we situation it? You basically need a point on the equator.

Yeah an unoccupied piece of land on the equator. We'd have to build a platform in the ocean. I mean who wants 60 miles of cable to fall on them if an accident happens

Imagine a world where the Military budget and Space budgets were switched. If only we thought of the bigger picture instead of have pathetic oil wars with everybody.

We probably have better technology by now.

What you said makes me think of Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot."

Good stuff, love Carl Sagan... makes me want to re-read his books. Cosmos is possibly the best book I've ever read, way back in my late teens.

He was a big child hood idol for me too.

The only thing I didn't understand was when I was growing up Carl said mankind was arrogant to think he was the only intelligent life in the universe out of all the BILLIONS and BILLIONS of stars and planets.

Then later on when I saw him on something I don't remember when, all I remember was his statement something to the effect there was no other intelligent life and something like this that just made my jaw drop and devastated the pedestal I had him on as a child.

Then before he died I saw him on another show and he was back to the having to be life out of all the BILLIONS and BILLIONS of stars and planets.

So WTH was that all about and I know I didn't hallucinate it.

Science/Technology is still getting better every day.
Everything getting faster, cheaper, and smaller.

What's to say a supposed "Space" drive isn't discovered in the next decade?

Once all the dang blasted world turmoil has calmed down, and government budgets get back on track, maybe more money can be ear-marked for the space budge and R&D?

Could be interesting. I hope it all works out because if it does you can bet we'll have changed our moon plans faster than you can say "Blast Off".

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
