Michigan Superintendent to Governor...turn my school in to a prison

I really like this. Prisoners need to be out rebuilding our roads and doing hard labor to pay back what we're putting in to the prison system, imo.

    i agree.

in colorado, if you are on food stamps or receive from the county, you need to do volunteer work = to how much you received. a few years back, i was quite unemployed, and had to go get me some food stamps, not my proudest moment, but it wasnt just free. I got like 175$ a month, and i had to do 22 hours of service somewhere. food shelters, filing papers, basically they had a huge list, i chose a museum, blah blah.

long story short, it was free, but i still had to "work" for it. this was just a mere 175 a month. doesnt it take like 30k a year, sometimes more to keep an inmate alive? im all for making them work to pay for their keep. it isnt like our infrastructure cant use some serious repair/upkeep.

      Excellent point here:

The State of Michigan spends annually somewhere between $30,000 and $40,000 per prisoner, yet we are struggling to provide schools with $7,000 per student.
The problem is that even with sufficient funding, unless the kids have supportive/stable families/upbringing, the schools cannot save them. Wave after wave of dropouts does not make an Utopian society.

As for the prisoners and their rights: give them 3 meals a day, same thing every day. For exercise they can work or walk/run circles around the lawn. Let them go to a library as much as they went to one when they were not in prison. That should about cover it.

What type of food do they serve. Prison in MI seems the way to go...

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
