Is It Really Safe to Use a Cellphone on a Plane? - ABC News
Duke, what are your thoughts?
I always thought they were just being overly cautious, like cell phones around gas pumps. I can tell you a cell phone or signal will not set off gas fumes, I've worked on/in gas pumps at a job and we'd routinely talk on the phone with our heads stuck in the pump, gas leaking out, or inches of gas in the plastic tub at the bottom to catch leaks. It's the rubbing motion of your clothes or the phone building up a static charge that can ignite fumes.
