And as an aside, tensions with Russia are already high. They're far more dangerous now than they've been at any point since the mid 80s.

        Look at WW2

        Italian annexation of Albania.
Re-occupation of the Rhine-land. (the German army rode in on bicycles no less)
        The Anschluss 1938
German take over of Memel, Lithuania
Annexation of the Czech lands and the creation of the Slovak state.
Russian take over of Finn lands outside Leningrad.

War didn't start until German demands for the Danzig. 3 years after all this crap started. And that is only some of the most common stuff.

People look at Iraq as such a bad thing.... I personally view it as a good position. If one of those countries go to war against us or our allies. We already have men there which means our war machine is already ready.

Besides.... its been about 30-35 years since we were in a true war. I think everyone is getting itchy trigger fingers.

I wonder if al-qaeda is going to say something tomorrow.

I have no idea why she stood up through the sunroof. Did not one of the people in the car discourage her??

last I heard the Army was stretched thin to begin with, going into another country would push it IMO. Then again that's all only hear-say.

Better to have a base to conduct operations then to travel a billion miles then assault and off load to return home.... Besides it wouldn't be so thin if politics would get there heads out of the butt of the military.

I think it would be tough for the U.S. to go into Pakistan and try to take over the nukes and everything like that. We are already having trouble in Iraq and Afghanistan and since so many people are against the war in the first place, do you think it will be easy to convince everyone to go into Pakistan? Even if its just to secure the nukes, people wont believe it will be a quick occupation or anything like that.

So there was more than one guy in the car that exploded. A driver and a shooter? Seems like either the attack was well coordinated, or there was a "lapse" in Bhutto's security.

Lapse? how about total incompetence by her security forces.

Pakistan is heavily muslim, and we haven't always done well with
muslim nations. Pakistan came under heavy criticism for harboring
terrorists on their western border areas.

I see this as a spark away from a very nasty situation.

She was in the sunroof standing and waving. A guy on the outside comes close to the car and fires 3 shots and blows himself up thinking if the gun did not do it, the bomb would. The security was lapse like crazy. She knew it and yet she stood up. I understand what she is trying to do but there is a limit. Remember this is the 2nd attempt. Most likely i am thinking it is alqaeda trying to get musharraf off so that can control Pakistan.

I agree with Dead And Gone. If Musharraf gets removed, you better hope the next person in line is not Al Qaeda friendly.

Troubling especially when you consider how WWI started - with the execution of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary... here's to hoping that history doesn't repeat itself!

Well... If you want nuclear weapons to fall into the hands of terrorists who are willing to kill themselves. (and we know they have them) 1 vote for war here.

I agree with the vote for war, I would much rather strain the country a bit more to ensure NYC and DC dont play catch with a couple of nukes. I just dont see a big military operation happening, or it happening with a lot of strings attached.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
