    Borders to liquidate

    http://www.seattlepi.com/business/ar...te-1471467.php

Very sad. I always liked Borders better than Barnes and Noble. There's something about going in to a book store and browsing around that internet shopping just can't beat.

This is very sad news indeed, which I first heard about on Conan's monologue, followed by a very frantic Googling.

I already suffered through the first wave which got rid of the 2 stores in my county, now I'll never have a Borders again.

These stores are FAR beyond Barnes and Noble in selection, quality, and price, not to mention just simple browsing experience.

    Dangit.

Wow, that is sad. Agree, nothing like spending a few hours in book store rummaging around... and Borders is the best place to do that. Haven't been much since I got my kindle... maybe it's my fault.

It is sad the internet takes another victim.... but i must say i buy my books from a small local store and do most of my reading through a library. Free is better than cheap. Plus i like the feeling you get in a local store where the owner has actually read the book and can tell you honest opinions on it and the author. As well as similar writers and my personal favorite the unknown writer that writes amazingly just doesnt have a good label. Same goes for music btw.

Borders, Barnes and Noble and Books a Million have put a lot of small book stores out of business. Now the Internet is doing the same thing to them.
I have to agree with PJ the mom and pop book stores were the best.

I usually check the books I read out of the library now.

Well still have an independant book store in my city called Webberlys.

              http://www.webberleys.co.uk/

I try to shop there as often as possible when i need something.

I wouldn't say it's the inernet that has killed off Borders. But the fact that people, now more than ever are looking for the best deal. If the recession hadn't happened i bet Borders would still be alive and kicking.

I have noticed in my area that more people use the library now. I am sure that has hurt sales.

I was always a Barnes and Noble person but the fact is that more than 10,000 people just lost their jobs. That is atrocious.

Oh really? Library member numbers are pretty much none exsitant in England now. It's all about Facebook and getting as drunk as quickly as possible while you wander the streets.

I agree that Borders beat B&N. The Borders here closed around the beginning of this year...still a couple of B&N's in town, for now.
