REALITY: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse - all made front page news when they died at age 27 from drug overdoses - PATHETIC role models..........Andrew Found, Martin Lamb, Daniel Prior, Steven Dunn, Graham Shaw - none made front page news when they died at age 27, members of our Armed Forces killed in action in Afghanistan - PERFECT role models.

I am guessing most know where that came from.
So go on, go on be your own, go on be your own star!

While I 100% agree that the drug smoking booze drinkers artists are not good role models, the loss of some of them was a HUGE loss to the arts and to music. Some of these people were true geniuses gifted with so much talent that could have pushed the arts in such awesome directions.

I also agree that the armed forces do not get the media attention that they should.

Just not sure that the two should be directly linked in a statement. It makes one think that all artists are pathetic role models and all soldiers are perfect roles models. Generalised statements like that are not always 100% accurate

And before I get off my soapbox, in no way, shape or form do I put Amy Winehouse in the same league as Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin. While she had an interesting voice, I didnt see the same level of creativity or music genius as the others had. Really, the only thing that links her to them is the fact that she died at age 27. Would we be linked her to the greats if she died at 35? Probably not.
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

You left out Jim Morrison. He was extremely gifted as a muscian. Both his voice and his writing was so far above most other muscians of the time. I some times wonder if there is a fatal flaw in the genes of those who are extremely gifted artists?

I am all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Lets start with typewriters.
