I'm sure her family is mourning and trying to deal with the media attention. For that, I feel bad.

I personally find it very hard to feel bad for her. Who was she? A little rich girl who totally threw away her own potential. You know, we all suffer. We all have our demons and all go through our stuff. People go through some horrible things. I think of Dennis and his cancer. His wife, his children.

She had way more of a say in how she lived (and died) than the people in Somalia, Sudan and Norway.

So really, yes, it is sad someone died. I find it utterly pathetic the amount of media attention this is getting. Our society's fixation on "stars" is pretty damn sad.

This fact alone is what makes me believe that it wasn't all an "accident".
Just as Cobain quoted: "it's better to burn out than to fade away"

That quote was first sung in: Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) by Neil Young. He was refering to Johnny Rotten when he wrote it.

That's what I was thinking. I remember the song. I also remember seeing Johnny Rotten at SummerFest in Milwaukee, circa 1991, with PIL (here's one of their songs). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33Sdy...eature=related. He is still around, and I've sometimes wondered why Neil mentioned him and not Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols, who actually did burn out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeP22...eature=related

                I forgot about that scene.
Years ago my wife, her sister and I rented one movie each to watch. I rented Highlander, one of my favorites and they pooh poohed it. Until they started to watch it.
                They loved it.

Yep, that's why I wrote "as Cobain quoted". I didn't want to get into the backstory of the quote and derail the thread the originator wasn't the focus of putting the quote, but as Cobain was the first to quote it in his "suicide" letter, I thought it apropos to post it up in discussing Winehouse's "death". But hey, s'all good.

To keep this on topic... do you think Courtney also killed Amy Winehouse?

And was Winehouse her real last name?

People keep saying how ironic that her biggest hit was a song called "Rehab". But no one mentions her name Winehouse.

                                Ah well.

Back to more important things in my life, like picking crap out from under my toe nails
