They can't do that can they?

I know all colleges are different and same for online colleges but if you have an emergency and need to drop a class, can they really take away your financial aid?

My issue is, I have to have surgery (I won't go into detail) but it's pretty serious. I did not ask to drop a class, all I asked was to only have one class in November and one in December because I knew I was scheduled for two in December. Anyways, my adviser told me I could but I will lose my financial aid.

Am I being unrealistic here thinking that's crap?

Edit- It's not an emergency surgery nor is it an elective surgery but it's something that cannot wait.
So go on, go on be your own, go on be your own star!

Yeah they can do that kinda stuff if the financial aid is comming from the college. Same idea if you were skipping classes, they dont care why they just know what their attendance things say

It's a fast track program. One to two classes a month. I am set to graduate in July and if they just let me have only one class in December (since I was scheduled for two) they could add that other class to another mod and I would still graduate on time.I seriously think with this type of surgery, a lot of people would take time off.

I did tell my AA what was going on, I have to have a hysterectomy and she said her concern was my Lupus and the possible side effects the Lupus could have on the surgery. All I want is just one class in December and add the other class to another mod. We are only allowed two classes a mod but I have two mods that only have one class later on and I don't understand why I cannot switch them.

They can do that but usually if you talk to your Financial Aid Advisor, not your academic advisor, they can usually help you with the whole thing. I'm not sure if it's still applicable as it was during december and it's January now.

It's done and over but thank you for the input . I had contacted the Associate Dean of the school and they changed my schedule until February to have only one class each mod. However, by doing what I did, I set my graduation date back because they won't allow three courses a mod and I would need two mods to finish at my scheduled time

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
