    My observation..

I havent been around much lately, and I dont have ANY video games right now, so I don't know any of the new folks here at the lair.
But recently I decided to check out to COD4 section, I loved the SP when I had the chance to play it so why not?
But, to the point, I saw a few new names, but only in there. Is it just me, or do these new members not really go to the other sections of the forum?
Oh, and I am not complaining or anything, these are just my observations.

They are embrassing COD4 to exclusion probably.. lol

It takes awhile for new people to float around to the different sections and
    get interested in them.

some have entered in conversation. i believe more have joined the forums but have been less verbose. at this point most of the CoD players are pretty into the game. you know: come for the game, stay for the people

That is typical behavior with most popular games that Cain hosts. I remember it more clearly when BF2142 came out and how many people posted in that forum only and never in any other forums.

Our society is quick to think. We see a forum for the game we are playing, we post in it. We post everything in it, from our first "Hiya, I'm new post", to our complaints, to our general non game chit chat, to our technical problems.

As those non-COD4 related discussions start, we try and point them to the other forum sections to get them used to posting in the right forum, sometimes moving threads, sometimes just telling them to check out other forums.

Personal observation.... those that start to post in other sections in the forums are those who typically hang around past the game that introduced them to Cain's. Those that stick to one forum will often not follow when Cain starts a new game or will leave the community when they start playing a new game.

And bacon, here is your bacon cake

That cake looks pretty good. Are you down to share bacon?
I think that maybe these are the first forums they have really been involved in, I remember myself jumping right into the entire mix when I signed up here. But, the first forums I enlisted to, I think I did the same thing, just stuck to the game section, and after a bit, explored the rest of the community.
I kind of feel like some distant uncle or something, watching my brothers have babies and seeing the babies grow up. Do you guys know what I am saying?

This is a very fluid and open community and many of the people come and go. I can also say that there are many people who may not have joined a forum before and may be a bit shy about posting. I was one of those people who joined up but didn't post for several months because I was new to the online world. When I did post it was only in that section at first. Now after 5 years of spamming I have gotten quite used to posting all over the place.

Well, to be honest, I think the forums could use a little help. For instance, when I first came to the forums I thought about joining since I talked to cain for the first time on the game server, but I got to the forums, and there was not a whole lot to look at. Unfortunately, the forum looks bare to the unregistered user. This is not good if you really want to attract new users. What I WOULD DO, is make all the forums publically available except maybe a small section for members only, so that members could chat privately, but a new user must register to make a post. This way the unregistered user could see what the conversations were all about, and then it would spark their interest in getting into the chat by registering. I've built many forums for websites, and this is a kiss of death by not allowing a preview of what the hot topics are. It tends to make people just browse right away from the site. I did the first time I came, but being a webmaster, I knew that there was more to it than meets the eye since I know most sites have private sections that only regged members can participate in... as well as admin only sections. This may be something that Cain might want to consider. I guarantee you will get more visitors if they can read most of what is being talked about BEFORE they decide to register.... then again you guys might like it like that.

I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do, but from my experience...and I have a lot of it...it sparks the interest of a would-be-passerby and inclines them to join just to make that one post. They usually stay... and they WOULD stay here since there are not alot of flame wars going on which is what down-to-earth people really like to be a part of. This is the reason I actually started frequenting the forums here, but I wouldn't have if I didn't already know that there was more to the site once I registered.
