Moment of Silence: Titan UT2004

After years of hanging on, it appears the forums for our UT2004 friends in the UK at Titan Internet have finally gone dark. They were, and are great folk and gamers; and I thank and salute you all for the once and unique times we had.

For those who weren't around during those days, there were many people from the UK and nearby European countries who played UT2004 at Cain's Lair. Why? Because both of Cain's UT2004 servers (Onslaught and CTF) were the number one servers to play on. Being decent folk, they appreciated Cain's philosophy, the people who played here and despite the ping imbalance they continued to play here. Then, one person who owned a fledgling Internet hosting company, set up a server and forums for the locals (one of them might correct me on the details). Naturally, because there were better pings and a powerful server; most went over to play at Titan Internet.

Even still, the camaraderie via the forums continued. We had Cain's vs Titan matches; where battles were held on the server here in the US and then reciprocate battes were held on the server in the UK. You can imagine the results based on ping direction, but the fun was still evident. What a blast it was. I consider myself fortunate to have been a part of it all.

I've followed them since then and though inevitable, I am sad to see their community go dark. I see a few of them on the Online Users list now and again. Hopefully they will stay in touch for a while, anyway.

I used to play on titan as well as here, not that often thou...
The voice work was not the same as here, few used it lol
Even thou my ping was +100 to here I still loved here.

I do miss the titan boys thou.

I was around then but never go into any of the matches, they were a great bunch of guys. Although there have been many great games here at the lair they just never quite had the magic that UT2K4 had, imho.

I never knew Titan were still going, and as you say, it's sad to see them go.

While I didn't see any post saying they were going to close the forums down, I was away for a week and when I got back and tried, I received a 'Forbidden' message on their URL (it's still there). Probably just time. They played UT3 for a while, but continued to play the UT2k4 Freon mod and Onslaught now and again and some TF2, though I don't think they ran a server. From looking at Battlemode's new site (dvgaming.com) I found that many (including Piglet and Thor) are moving to xming's UT2k4 forums servers in Belarus.

hi there kids,

Been a long time, I'm happy to see Cain's still kickin! I see some of you getting misty over titan's retirement, as did I when I found out as well. Pinky's Playhouse dropped offline at some point as well and I lost touch with him and the guys over there, sadly.

It's great to see some names that I remember from my CLR days, when I was cutting my teeth on the ut franchise and having loads of fun playing hours of ONS with all of you.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and extend an invitation to old friends and let you know that if any of you did end up re-installing ut2k4 and were looking for a place to play some freon (which is my game of choice these days) please feel free to look me up at House of Carpe.

We keep it locked down to help avoiding the rare hacker and have a wonderful group of folks still hanging on and playing UT pretty much every night. Fair warning, HOC is an adult community so you will hear and see colorful language, but it is always in good fun. I hope some of you will come over and check it out, it would be great to catch up on old times.
