The age of prosecution needs to lower NOW!

This country is really getting out of hand. It's so saddening to see this on a daily basis and the police/courts are powerless to do anything because of our stupid government.

Please forgive my ignorance buy why are the police powerless? It seems that they aren't doing anything.

All the offenders are too young. They get a slap on the wrist and sent back out into the wild. The ones that are of age get bailed because our government doesn't want to build any more prisons.

The average age of these offenders is 11-19. So as you can see the majority don't get sent down. I have no problem what so ever with sending 11 year old idiots to prison.

We have the same problems over on this side of the pond. That's why stories like this one http://recent-us-news.com/data/artic....07.31.51.html are so heartwarming.

It will be interesting to see if they can get a jury to convict the father. I'd vote Not Guilty and recommend he be given a medal.

I feel your pain, Great Britain and Canada need to take a lesson from the American judicial system! You can literally get away with murder here. 2 years for killing a cop? Try that in the U.S. and see what happens to you.

Which is an excellent way of temporarily stopping THAT individual, but the next step is to isolate the triggers that caused that person to think that what they were doing was acceptable behavior, or at least, a good idea. I'm pretty sure (not 100%, this crowd always manages to surprise me) that none of US engaged in this sort of behavior, now if we can replicate the backgrounds we had onto todays youth, then we could conceivably see reports like this disappear.

Now that I've said that, this looks like yet ANOTHER proof that CCTV does virtually nothing at preventing crime at a high cost to the taxpayers in the form of equipment, maintenance, and monitoring manpower, not to mention the lack of privacy.

Just read this from your link.

'But we have a criminal justice system in place, and no one can take the law into their own hands.
Not sure about your police/courts etc but they do nothing, and people are finally starting to realise that if they don't do something themselves, nobody will.

Not much...if you're under 18, they'll stick you in juvie until you're 18 and then give you probation, and maybe some community service. Prosecutors like high conviction numbers and hate juries so they'll agree to some of the most ridiculous plea bargains.

We need scare tactics. The majority of these people aren't necessarily bad. But they're just following the crowd/latest trend (Yes this is a trend! Just like rockers, emo's, goths etc) They know that nothing can be done to them no matter what they do to innocent people.

Which is exactly why they smiled and waved to the cctv camera. Because they know that nothing will be done.

Something would be done in my neighbourhood as we don't have CCTV camera's to capture the evidence, know what I mean

Maryland, D.C. and Virginia all dip down. If you do something really heinous and you're 16-18, you're tried as an adult. I think we've even dipped down to 14-15 from time to time.

Yeah, they'll usually go as low as 13 years old for trying someone as an adult, but it's usually based on how heinous the crime is.

A premeditated cop killing would get you tried as an adult at almost any age in most states in the U.S.

But don't let that fool you, the U.S. justice system is still really screwed up. Though most of the madness revolves around our civil court system and its severely broken Tort law.

They do it here as well from time to time, but the offenders rarely do any serious time. Remember Lionel Tate...the 12 year old that stomped a 6 year old to death? He got a year of house arrest and ten years of probation. Of course, he promptly went out and committed an armed robbery, so maybe we'll get lucky and they'll keep him behind bars this time.

In Germany the situation is even worse.

Ive got an idea for the prison problem, and it solves the factories going overseas, and the healthcare debate!

We outsource the prisons to textile companies or whatever so that they build and maintain the prison without having to pay the inmates for their work!
That way, the Gov't doesnt have to use our taxes to make life cozy for people who suck the welfare fund dry, and they can concentrate on a healthcare system... which goes void if you break the law (I guess we can give them leeway on small traffic violations).
The murderers would make our dollar socks without being paid and we would deny China the ability to economically strangle us.

Of course, the ACLU would rather give a serial killer a water-bed rather than fight hackers who steal people's identities

(if you would like to hear my other ideas, PM me)
