That's an interesting article. Apparently games are responsible for men avoiding marriage and children? There are deeper reasons for some of the affected life decisions than presented. As a "child-man" (according to the article, since I'm 36, unmarried, no children, and play games for a couple of hours a night), here's my viewpoint on some of them.

Marriage is no longer as important to young people, because it's primarily a religious ceremony, and religion is less and less important with each generation. Throw in the fact that we've grown up with a 50% divorce rate, and by the time we've hit our 30s we've seen friends and colleagues with lives ruined by divorce, and the urge to marry is somewhat dwindled. I've been engaged for almost six years, and neither one of us is in any real hurry to get married (well, she is bugging me a little now that her friends are starting to marry off). It's expensive and I don't really care that much about a piece of paper. As far as commitment goes...my commitment to her was when I put a rock on her finger that was the most expensive thing I've ever purchased that didn't have wheels on it.

I don't want to try to raise children in the culture we have now. I don't know if I'd be a strong enough teacher to force my way through the indoctrination they receive in schools. I don't want to raise a child that actually believes in the politically correct, rewritten history they're presented with, or to believe that life is actually fair and that there are no winners or losers because everyone really is equal. That'll prepare them well for the real world. Economically, most parents have to both work full-time jobs, so your child is actually raised by some minimum wage daycare employee. I have nothing but respect for parents that manage to raise decent kids in this world (in fact, my little sisters have four between them, and they're great kids), but have no desire to become one of them. Additionally, while some may call it alarmist, when the oil runs out very bad things are going to happen in this country. I'd rather not raise someone that will have to deal with that eventuality, since our government is ignoring it. Finally, I'm just selfish enough to enjoy what little free time I have. I'm not interested in giving that up to bring a child into such a crappy world.

So, as a "child-man", I'd have to say that culture and economics is responsible for my lack of interest in marriage or children. I'm pretty sure it's not because of the couple of hours a night I play games.

        Totally in agreement with you.

I'm slightly older than you, single. I'm not getting married (no interest in it yet, same with kids). There is a person on my team at work who is my age; married, divorced, and already paying child support.

I hold a nice job, just purchased a new vehicle, buying a house this summer. I play video games, i guess that means I'm unfit and not ready to handle the 'responsibility' of adulthood. What a load of BS. I'll do what i choose to with my time and not have some 'journalist' decide what and how i should lead my life according to her version of societies standards.

Also, i LOVE to read. I guess i just shot her theory all to hell.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
