1 bad hair day with problems at home, boss ragging on you, and
the ONE kid finally puts the teacher over the edge.

Seriously, The cost of monthly psych evaluations would be astronomical,
plus the furor from the parents, and the insurance costs. It would be
cheaper to hire a policeman or two for the campus/school for every day that they are open for teaching.

Problem I have with it is teachers are not really the type I'd trust in these situations. Most teachers tend to get into teaching with a desire to work with kids, and most people who like working with kids are of a gentler disposition.

I think its time they invested in security guards for schools, armed or not. Let the teachers teach, let the guards guard. It's bizarre that businesses, shops, sports stadiums, boat-yards, garages, and every other place has guards and schools, the place where the most vunerable people of our society spend most of their time, don't.

Minfootball and I just got a mass email from our school. Turns out the gunman was from U of I, but was a student at Northern a year ago.

The suspect is the younger Kazmierczak, a university source told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the identity has not been released by police.

It looks like he put the shotgun in a guitar case

Apparently he was a good student until he stopped his meds. Damned tragedies are breaking my heart. This happens again, we might go the way of airports and have soldiers patrolling everywhere. I'm sure this won't happen, but this is sucking.

This is two cases in a row where someone mentally ill has been able to legally purchase firearms. Public safety trumps privacy in this matter, IMHO.

all of these school shooting has me by the seat of my pants. Should we revoke our right to bear arms? I value safety over guns. I mean the only reason we have guns is because others have guns, and when the constitution was written, everyone was HUNTING FOR FOOD. And now its the other way.
We have crazy psychopaths runnin' around with their guns. I mean cr*st, this is 2008 and it seems to be like the wild west. And did you know. yeah get a load of this. With the money, you can buy a 50 cal semi auto machine gun. And only for like 25 dollars you can make it fully auto. its like what Mencia always says "DEH...DEH...DEH". but then again it would be impossible to bann guns. Look at the drug situation. it still happens, weather we like it or not. So finally, yeah its in the constitution to bear arms, and yeah that is very unrealistic to bann arms, but with proper screening I believe that we could drastically cut down the rate at which things like what happened at NIU, and V-TECH. And the NRA would go confed on our a**e** if guns were made banned.

ok...too bad an Amendment outlawing a citizen's right to bear arms would never even get passed being proposed as a bill, let alone being voted on...

I really think this isn't the step in the right direction.

BTW: Perhaps we should go the way of both airports and intercity schools. Hire police/security, have checkpoints with metal detectors on each and every campus building entry, search EVERYONE, and let people through that remain clear, have a valid school ID, and in theory, no one gets hurt. Imagine that, the long lines, the random searches. It'll be just like the Naval Base I used to go to.

I have absolutely zero problem with adults with CCW licenses carrying on campus, or anywhere else for that matter. I applaud the guy named in the article for taking steps to protect himself instead of waiting to be another victim.
