    Tax rebates.

My congress man had the nerve to send me an email asking me what I was going to do with my tax rebate.

    My reply.

Return of a part of an amount given in payment......

A lot of the people that are getting "rebates" didn't put anything into the system in the first place!
And it's not really a rebate in another sense. It's really more of a loan against next years taxes.
This is just another way to buy votes in an election year, IMHO.

Besides, I won't get one anyway, I'M RICH, at least according to congress. I make slightly more than $75,000. You, being from this area, know that is not rich. I'm a solid middle class person.
And most people are going to try to pay more of there debt with this money, it's not going to do diddly squat to help the economy.

    But, thanks for asking.

    Mark Pace
I wonder if he will respond......

I'd love to see his response if you get one...

I would think that with the elections and all, he will send you a response...

The REAL question is.... is he hip enough to be able to understand IMHO? Or will he have to ask someone what it means..
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

Somehow I don't think you'll get an answer. Nice response, though.

As I understand it, it's not a loan against next year's taxes. The 2008 returns will include a line where you claim the amount you receive in this "rebate", but that's only for accounting purposes as you have already received the money. It does not actually affect your 2008 taxes as it is a tax credit built into next year's tax structure. I may be completely wrong about this, but I can't see how it would cost the government however many bajillion dollars this "rebate" is costing if we had to pay it all back next year. Although we'll all have to pay for it eventually anyway as it just makes the deficit that much worse.

Mine is going into the bank until I can find a straight answer on this. I have to pay those scumsucking bastards extra money every time I file as it is, since I work for a small business and claim zero dependents to try to compensate somewhat for the outrageous health insurance premiums I pay. I really don't want to find out the hard way that I'll owe an extra $600 next year.

This is a good example of why you shouldn't be able to vote unless you pay a certain amount of taxes. Pandering to the poor is never a good idea. Bread and circuses all over again.

In the meantime, I can sleep better at night knowing that a big chunk of the taxes I paid last year are going to drive Wal-mart's and King Cobra's stock prices up.

I spent some time reading the enabling legislation behind the rebate. Tax law is hard as hell to understand, much worse than even land use law, but it does seem to state that this is essentially "free money," and will not be repaid in any way next year.

I wrote a more lenghty response to my wife when she was concerned about it a week or so ago while we were at work, but I've forgotten the specifics and don't want to remember. The gist is, it seems that we won't get stuck with it next year.

And think of it this way: if it's recoupable next year, how exactly would the government expect to get the money back from those otherwise too poor to qualify for taxation (who are getting the smaller rebates), and those who can't pay back taxes in the first place? It would also be political suicide to trick the people like that, and for something of this level, people would have long memories.

            That's what I thought.

Although the political suicide probably wouldn't matter, after November whatever idiot we elect this time will already be in place, and most sheeple's memories don't last long enough for it to matter in the next election.

Except that nobody has ever simply ripped 300-800 bucks right out of the sheep's pockets before. I think that would lead to a longer memory.

Good reply, Paceman. My thoughts exactly.

I'm going to write in "Mark Pace" when I vote for President next November - there is absolutely no one else that will be on the ballet that I would [could] vote for unless Huckabee can pull it out of his ass and win the the Republican nomination, not very likey.

                  Vote Paceman!

I don't think people would vote for me, because I can't suck up to people.

Social Security - over done, stick a fork in it. It was a great idea, so poorly implemented that it was destined to fail from day one.

I.R.S - close the doors. We'll find a better way to fairly bring in taxes. A national sales tax, or a flat tax. What so many people don't get is that business don't pay taxes, they collect them, by passing on the amount to you. If we raise taxes on businesses they are only going to raise the price of their goods and services.

Capital gains taxes. Seriously bad idea. Do you want people to invest and save or not?!?!

See my candidacy would end very quickly.

...exactly why I would vote for you.
