I want to hurt my hubby :)

Hubby gets the idea this weekend I would love to play Falcon 4.0. I think cool I can fly a plane...wrong! I can't take off, land, or do anything else without crashing. I can eject so I guess that is something. I do have a 700 page PDF manual that is going to teach me how to fly this thing. I did get the plane in the air one time last night and then I started pushing buttons at random. Obviously something you do NOT want to do while flying.

I feel my place is on the ground shooting, call in the air strike and let someone else fly.

Falcon 4.0 ?? Sheesh .... thats hardcore there. If he was nice, he would've started you on one of the many flight sim .... errrmmm ... wait ... that was about 16 years ago that every game out was a flight sim ...

Anyhoo, SWOTL, Battle of Britain: Their Finest Hour, Microprose 1942 .... great games played on a 486DX2 50, so that gives you an idea how long ago that was !!!

About the only good flight sim still around is Il-2 Sturmovik, and that flight community is absolutely fanatical. Apologies to any newer flight sims that I've missed. There are a few left out there.

I never last in those games... takes too much effort.

I am not too familiar with the falcon sim but if you find one with a tutorial you may actually enjoy it. it will take you step by step and you could avoid the frustrating part I played the first MS simulator on an IBM XT when I was 16 I think ah the memories..

I actually got pretty good at one of the simulator type games. It was EF2000 I believe. (Euro Fighter 2000). I got really good at takeoff and landing. I played another one which I forgot the name, where I exceeded the ability of crashing into the side of an aircraft carrier. After a few months I got to where I could land it every time. I love flight sims. I've flown my buddy's plane and chopper. The chopper is something that requires a bit of skill whereas an airplane with fixed landing gear is pretty much a no-brainer. I can't remember what kind of plane it was but there was no yoke, just a thing like an emergency brake in a toyota pickup that you fly with one hand. It stuck out of the dash near the door, like where your light switch is in a vehicle. It was really advanced and very nice.

The chopper...Heh... well if you have ever seen a NOOB jump in a chopper on BF2 for the first time... well that's about how it is if you have never practiced. I got fairly good with it. I got good enough that he trusts me to go up by myself.. but since I don't have a license I only flew around the lake at about 20-50 feet.

I plan on getting my license one day. It is awesome. A couple weeks ago he asked if I wanted to go to Brunswick (bout 1.25 hours away) and get something to eat. I didn't have time, I told him... he said we'll fly so we jumped in the plane and were on the ground in 17 minutes. It is a luxury at best.

I am very frustrated with the game to say the least. I guess at some point I will get it. I mean dang the radar says there are planes in front of me. That is grand but I never see them yet they manage to shoot me every single time. Guess I will be reading the very long chapter on radar set up and see if I can get some better feedback from the radar. I take breaks from learning the game and play COD4. So you will see me popping on and off through out the day.

That's why I always liked the WWII Flight Sims better. I always wanted to see the planes I am shooting at and to see the ones shooting at me.

You have to do point assimilation.
Learn how to do each step, and do each step well, in order.

First- learn the basics on how to get the speed to take off.
Then learn how to get your nose in the air- and keep it on the right heading.
Then, learn what you need to do to get it in the air
                    etc.
                    etc.

Flying is like cooking- its a step by step process- just dont get shells in the batter and you will be okay.

If you want just a fun brainless air-shooter try "Crimson Skies". Think "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" without the robots and spaceships.

You guys remember Red Baron, Tie Fighter, the Jane's series, Strike Fighter, Heros of the Pacific? Flight sims used to be the shiznit.

I liked Aces of the Pacific and Aces Over Europe. They were DOS based games under Win 3.1. Back then you used to have to use a boot disk to have enough memory to play.

Try Falcon 4: Allied Force... It was completely redone and they fixed all the bugs. lead-pursuit.com is the website for them. They also have video tutorials all over the web for it now. I have been flying the falcon series since 1992. Once you learn the basics it's easy from there.
