I like the idea of no Custom Avatars without some level of subscription. As You said Cain, 1500 is plenty to choose from for the regular registered populace. As for signatures, I'd say limiting size for registered users and no limit for subscribers should work. Have to figure out what size is best for a limit, most places I've seen limit the sig block to 560X150 or close to that. If it's too big, it will mess with the layout on smaller resolution monitors (especially with those boxes at the right ----->). Or perhaps a 3-Tier limit: small for registered users, 560X150 for subscribers, and unlimited for lifers. Just a thought.
And how about custom titles for the lifers (besides just "Life Time Member" )
Edit: works....YAY

Yep... got an edit button, whereas yesterday I didn't.
I didn't have any special user permissions set up in the old forums, yet I could edit my posts in all but one or two of the forums sections. Anyway, thanks! It is workin now. 20 minutes is plenty of time to re-read the post and edit it if any is required.

Non-subs
- Basic "pick from a list" avatars
- small siggies
- no ability to post pictures, or post them in a limited size only (imageshack offers to reduce the size of your picture upload, so there is a way to do it)
Subs / Lifers
- Upload your own avatar
- Bigger siggies
- Upload bigger pictures
These are things in my eyes that affect the bandwidth and thus, affect the cost. So its only normal that those who pay have access to things that cost more.
I agree with allowing some level of board persona customizing, but it needs to be done in a limited fashion for the non-subs and in a less limited fashion for the subs.
Have you thought more about giving reserved slots on the servers? I wouldn't say for all subs/lifers, but maybe have 1 reserve slot and have a monthly draw where 2-5 winners are announced and they get access to the reserved slot for the month on their Cain's game of choice (if there happens to be multiple high profile games at once).[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

My wife had setup a Cafe Press site to sell some merchandise for a local event she was promoting. While it didn't generate much revenue, it can still be an outlet for people who want merchandise.
I believe you make your custom shirts (Vito is awesome at that) and then they sell them for you. As nothing is pre-printed, you don't pay upfront, you only pay when you sell something. It costs about $10-$15 for a shirt, so charging $15-$20 would work, and help generate some revenue.
You can do shirt, buttons, stickers,...

**Don't quote me on this, its just what I remember her saying a few months ago. Would need to be looked into...[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.

I think there are better options than cafe press, it just might take more time. I remember when I brought this idea up a few weeks ago someone said they can get them printed on a silk screen. I used to know someone who did that in their apartment for all the local shops and restaurants. I even have a few t shirts he has made, they are really nice and last long.
And to the hard rocking elf-man I say YES! Because I know that the money is going to a good cause.
Oh, and the custom titles idea, that is great.
