    An Important question... (imo)

Is Oscar a good name for a cat?

Yes or No, and be honest. I'm getting an animal companion in about 2 weeks, and decided to get a kitten (I like to start from the beginning). I haven't picked one out yet since I'm moving again, than I'm going down to get it.

So, is Oscar a good name? I don't want people coming over and making fun of my pet because of it's name.

I got the name from Oscar Schindler (I think he spells it with a K though), because as a German American I love the fact that he proves not all Germans back in WWII were blood thirsty, careless bastards. And for many other reasons...

    Anyways... back to the point

    Oscar, good cat name?

    Yes?
    No?
Suggestions for other names? (besides stinky kitty or fluffy, no way in hell am I getting a cat named fluffy)

Yeah Oscar's ok. however I'd say go and pick the cat out and then name the cat. The name fits better then. Although I've know people to name cat's differently. A roommate of mine picked a word at random from a book (linoleum). My fav though is what I call my friends cat. My wife used have her own place before we got married. when she was out of town for a week we had some friends stay there. Well my friend sees this cat and say here kitty kitty. The cat had no collar and ran up to him and never left Yes they put up sings and everything but by the end of our friends stay (2 weeks) no one came forward so they took the cat. While trying to name the cat I suggest the street name where my wife used to live...Dakota

Generally speaking, yes, Oscar is a good name for a cat. mapes is right though, you really can't name the cat until you get to know it. You may get this cat and find that Oscar just doesn't fit him. That happened with one of my cats. This kitten shows up in our barn one day, so we ask around with all the neighbors and none are missing any kittens (in a small town news like new kittens gets around anyway). We had no idea what to call him so we just called him cat at first. About a week after he showed up, he found and got into the bag of catnip that we kept for a cat that we had just recently lost. I don't know how familiar you guys are with That 70's Show, but there is a character named Leo who really loves a certain drug of the time. We felt that since catnip (as our running joke goes) is the cat equivalent of this drug, the name fit. I know that you may want a name for him right when he gets home, but I say hold off. If Oscar happens to fit, then fantastic, but if not I am sure you could find something either more appropriate or more meaningful than Oscar.

What an odd question... its a cat's name, end of story. Who really cares what "others" think about your cats name?

Oscar is fine. Call him Fridge if you want. I've seen worse, I've seen better.

I had a cat called Bozo once.

Oscar is a fine name, but the guys are right, get use to the cat first and the name will fit if it right for them.

I treat my animals like part of the family, so names are important to me. That's why I care. I wouldn't name my kid Fluffy or something like that, would you? Would you care what others thought of your kids name?

Meet the cat first... I think that's the general consensus.

I got my cat and it proceeded to attack everything that moved, legs, leaves, remotes, cups, bags, etc. Therefore, my cat is named Goblin.
