    I know Duke wants this...

In-flight surveillance could foil terrorists in the sky - tech - 29 May 2008 - New Scientist Tech

Don't lie, we know you like watching your passengers unsuspectingly!

And in other news....how long do you think until they install cameras in the bathrooms to watch for people building bombs there?

Frankly, I'd be flattered if a gov't official decided they wanted to watch me in a stall.... Not necessarily come in with me, though. But, I'm not building bombs or breaking other laws in public restrooms either, so I'm safe from that particular aspect.

Anyway, just the fact that we can tell our enemies that we're watching them would seem to be pretty effective, even if the camera doesnt work that well.

Putting a camera on every passenger is rather onerous and just like face recognition I have my doubts about how effective it is. Who is going to pay for all of the hardware and purchase the software....the airline passengers is who. Talk about a waste of money. Basically my thought is... a waste of money and serious intrusion by the government/airlines with little show for it. On top of all that reports have come out that cameras don't always deter bad behavior. There was a report that studied the UK one of the most heavily monitored country. They found the cameras didn't deter crime.

I don't think you need a closed circuit tv to tell you that your plane is being hijacked. The pilots could probably figure it out before the software did and I imagine this is intended to alert the pilots.

I just noticed this post because I just got back from vacation. I think having cameras everywhere is a bit scary but it would be kind of fun to watch everybody. I could watch their reactions whenever I make a PA and maybe even add a few exciting details and stuff whenever I get bored.
