    Does this violate seperation of Church and State?

    South Carolina plans license plate for Christians - CNN.com

    Honestly, I'm agnostic, leaning heavily towards atheist. I don't much care if you want Christian dogma displayed on a liscence plate, but they really should make the same exact deal / restrictions to any other faith/religion then, which it doesn't sound like they will be doing. I bet this gets shot down fast.

    While individuals can ask the DMV to print plates for other faiths -- for a $4,000 fee -- the request would be subject to significant limits and rules not imposed for the Christian plate. Other tags could feature a religious symbol -- such as the Star of David -- but no words would be allowed.
    That will kill it right there. They have to give every religion the same opportunity or not allow any of them. They need to kick that idiotic Lt. Governor out of office, he's wasting taxpayers' time and money with this silliness when there are so many important things out there that need attention.

      Fail. They've lost the court case before it even began. Course, the bible belt being what it is, it may take a few years and appeals first.

        Like it or not this is a Christian nation, read the preamble to ALL 50 state constitutions and try to say it is not.

            Oh, I'm fully aware of that. There *is* supposed to be a separation of church and state though, and much as the Christian right dislikes it, there must be equality of all religions and no favors given to one religion. I don't have issues with religious wording in government documents and political speeches, but there's some things that either need to be given freely to all, or shot down for all.

                Truth and fact. The foundation of our nation is not just a single religion, but several Christian faiths, all with different views and ways of worshipping.

                The seperation of Church and State is something that has been twisted up quite a bit and is often used to eliminate Christianity from society. In itself, it may be interpretted as reverse discrimination- whereby freedom is placed in front of censorship in order to fulfill the segregation.

                Without going to deep into this topic, I would have to say that it is somewhat illogical to expect people in government to put aside their faith in order to serve the community of our nation. Federal, state or Local included as "community."

                What seperation of Church and State actually means, is that decisions and actions made on behalf of these United States, are not based on some Muslim Imam (spelling?) or some Catholic Cardinal, or some Protestant Clergy, or etc., but based upon the factual and clear representation of what the people, those with legal and law abiding status in our United States (a.k.a. Citizens and excluding illegal immigrants despite their best intentions), would like.

                If the population really wants the representation of Religious erased from government, then so be it. But the reality here is that no matter how often you publish a statement, a story, or an editorial opinion- it just depends on who is counting the beans and who is laying out the statistical reviews.

                This is why I like the United States so much- because you can say whatever you like in the paper, you can be Rupert Murdoch and publish all kinds of liberalism and anti-whatevers you want. But the fact remains, that America gets what America wants, and whenever we have voted on this topic, generally, the people have spoken- and generally- the people like Christian values, even the so called agnostic atheists.

                Just because you speak louder, print more articles, or present more graphs than anyone, doesnt make it truth. In my book, we call it propaganda.

                Just my two cents- nothing against anything anyone has said here.

                  I did alls it mentions is (at least with california) is under almighty god. That doesn't spell out whether it's the Christian or Jewish or Isalamic god could be Hindu. I think it's been reasonably argued that "under god" is usually meant to be from some divine right or by authority above men.

                    Where does California come into this article?

                    The preamble he refers to is the one that is part of the US Constitution.

                      His post is pointing out that the word god appears in each state's Constitution. Yes each state has one as well.

                      However if you want to talk US Constitution Specifically the premable has no mention of god in it.

                      Here it is

                      We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
                      No god there... In fact in the Pledge of Allegiance the phrase "Under God" as in "One nation under God" was in fact added during the 50's....Pretty certain during the red scare era. You know godless commies n all. In fact the Declaration of Independence does mention god at least once but, it also goes on to mention "Mans Creator". Anyone who says the the US was founded by people who wanted it to be Christian need to go and read about Jefferson....

                          Mapes- do you have to be so confrontational everytime anyone posts into an area that you are contributing?

                          My question was reasonable, and I was wondering if I missed something.

                          To be brutally honest, when you smart off like that, I wonder who the lesser minded person in this conversation might be.

                          Your approach just ruined a decent conversation and I sincerely wish you would just go away.

                              I don't think I'd call him being confrontational with his posts. He was responding with his opinion and various facts. Personally I thought he brought out some good information.
