      First off

Spot on Needle and well done.

      Second off

I reread my post like five times and I don't understand whats so flammable about it? I understand the I used the sentence

      Yes each state has one
Which could be construed as preachy (no pun intended...really). However thats not what I meant. It was more of an OMG each state has a constitution!

I think the real issue is that people feel strongly about this. I'm sorry I upset you but, fact is fact. I actually researched before posting.

However I feel strongly about this as well I'd rather not see my country hijacked by fundamentalists of any stripe.

The thing that make us strong is our diversity Anyone can become anything here. That makes the best and brightest want to come here and we should encourage them...

Let me get one thing right out there. I am not a Christian. Nor am I a Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Shinto, Atheist, Agnostic, Pagan or Pantheist. I am a man of my own beliefs and I think everyone else should be too. I don't mind anyone waving their religion or lack thereof in my face, hey, they have their beliefs too. What I do mind is a government agency that is supposed to be "of the people, by the people and for the people" discriminating against any segment of said people based on their beliefs. Whether you believe in Ceiling Cat, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, God, Allah or the Invisible Sky Wizard as the recently passed George Carlin referred to him, our government was founded to protect our right to worship whichever deity tripped your trigger. No one group, no matter how much of a majority of the population they may represent should be granted rights and priveledges beyond those granted to any other group. Fundamentalists of any breed are one of the roots of evil in my opinion.

one nation under God means the one and only God,that gave us his word in the form of the holy bible period. On the day of judgement, people will be wishing there hadnt been a seperation of church and state.this country was founded under one God,so imo that does not include any other religion.i serve a loving, but jealous God who will have no other gods before him.

hate to burst your bubble, but the whole "under God" part of our pledge wasn't added untill the 50's, as Mapes mentioned in a post above. Actually, here is the excerpt from his post that states it. And under that is a link proving it...

First paragraph of the New York Times... which i'm sure does their research...
'One Nation Under God' - New York Times

Now, lets keep in mind that the phrase "under God" could mean any god/goddess or other being that one wishes to worship. It's just all in the viewers perspective. Actually, one doesn't even have to say "under God" in the pledge, it's optional!

Note: I'm not trying to offend anybody here. These are just some very basic logical points that I would like to bring to the table for everybody to think about.

I hope you're joking. Because this country is based on religious freedom. And while as I said I'm agnostic with a tendency towards atheism, a majority of my family is some form of Christian. Now, if we get in to Christianity, which branch are we referring to? Because they all differ in some way and every branch claims that they are the only right ones. And while they might not claim the other branches are all going to burn in hell, except maybe the Catholics, they obviously don't think the others are right. The day that the government tries to force Christianity or any other religion on me is the day that I take up arms against that government, hopefully alongside a large portion of the population, until we restore the US to what it should be. If you want to live in a religious theocracy, try converting to muslim and going to live in one of the middle eastern countries with a religious government. I'm sure you'll be quite happy there.

oh,and to answer your question.i dont just think any branch is perfect in what they believe, but as long as they believe Jesus is the son of God and he died for our sins to save us and we have to exept his gift to be saved.that is the main thing.

Ok, this thread is really starting to get off topic. Lets stick with the main topic now.

Religion, sex and politics. The best topics of conversation are always hard to keep civil. I like Jeffro, he stated his point of view clearly and concisely and feels like I do although our beliefs differ, to each his own. Just because we disagreed in our opinions didn't mean we couldn't have a rational discourse. The world needs more people like that.

I respect everyone's religion however the US was founded for and by people wanting religious freedoms. They were escaping from England with it's state sponsored religion and really wanted the government to have no official religion. That is irrefutable fact.

The main point here is that no religion will be sponsored by the government.

As for filth vs god debate thats a whole nother topic. Without going into it lets just say people have different ideas on what is filth.
