Anyone else not watching the summer Olympics?

China to Limit Web Access During Olympic Games - NYTimes.com

Between all the human rights violations in China, their violent suppression of "dissidents", lying left and right about anything asked them, and now restricting press access to the internet while lying about it....before coming out with it, along with the IOC collusion...I'm not watching the summer Olympics. In fact, if I happen to see it mentioned on a news broadcast I'll switch channels. If the news media in the US had any balls they'd pull their reporters out until free access at least was given....but they'd lose too much ad revenue. I hope that people will boycott viewing.

I'm watching them. I honestly don't care where they are held, the Olympics aren't about that... It's about the athletes who come from all over the world to see who is the best. Where they are held is pretty irrelevant imo. my

I'll keep an eye on the medals and everything, but I refuse to give carte blanche permission for a country to lie, continue to lie, and then lie about their lies....especially with the history the communist government has in China....and have no one complain or sanction them in any way. This is my protest against it.

        I'm with Trooper, I won't be watching.

I'll keep a tab on the medal counts, and support Canadian athletes were I can, on their return home, any parades and such given in their honour, but I will not watch anything coming out of China.

A friend of mine is working there on the Olympic coverage for some news stations (he is a cameraman) and he said the access restrictions are pretty bad. One day, you can use door a to get to where you have to go, the next, door a is blocked and you need to take door b with a detour, guards now posted in front of door a, who can be pretty aggressive if questionned too much, and no reasons given why door a is now locked.
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.

The Olympics aren't meant to be related with anything political... yet somehow they always seem to turn out that way.

It's not about making a point for a country... it's about the athletes and to see who has the most talent and has worked the hardest.

          I'll watch

I agree in the spirit of the games...its about unity, all countries coming together in peace and in sport.

However, their choice of China so contradicts the entire Olympic spirit. They were lied to. The athletes health is in danger with all the smog and polution that was supposed to be cleaned up. Their freedoms are limited in where they go and what they say. Journalism / the press has been severly limited, when in their initial bid for the games, they said it wouldn't.

China has gone against the olympic spirit, and the IOC clued in too late to remove the games from there.

I'll be watching. As mentioned, the Games transcend politics (except for when it comes time to select the host city). Who knows what may happen--think on the '36 games and Jesse Owens shattering the myth of Nazi Supermen. You would have missed that under this philosophy, as I would assume you would have boycotted the Berlin games like the Beijing Games.

Anything can happen. And it may even be interesting to see what does come to light.

That being said, the entire IOC needs to have their asses kicked and be sacked from their jobs. It is absolutely inexcusable to make that deal with China, especially after all their (many, many) public reassurances that there would be freedom of speech and information for foreigners in Beijing.

That's what I have the internet for....to follow critical updates and what the medaling status is. I'm not helping the news channels and IOC rake in money for something that is clearly ********.

I try to watch the olympics as much as i can, simply because its the olympics and the spirit it represents. Seeing the world's best perform against each other and perhaps watching history being made is a good reason imho.

Though this isnt the first olympics with political issues, history has taught me that boycotting the olympics doesnt achieve anything. Either way, more than likely I will not be able to watch the olympics (except maybe the opening/ending ceremonies) due to the simple fact that the time difference will force me to see a recording.

The only events that i think are worth watching are the swimming and the field events. Anything other than that, i don't make it a point to watch. Where they are held won't stop me from rooting for our athletes to kick the crap out of those commie suckers.

Actually, the time difference is just about perfect for us here in EST. We're going to see all the major events (swimming, track, and gymnastics in the minds of the USOC/IOC) live. This is much better than when they were in Athens, and even trying to avoid results, you would see them most days before we saw the recordings.

On another note, I love that every second of these games will be either broadcast or online. The cool events Americans never get to see will be available, like Archery, Rifle, Pentathalon (sp?), Fencing, and some of the water sports (canoeing, crew, water polo).

Having tried many cases I've given up on expensive ones. Not convinced they are significantly better than an inexpensive gel case for 1/10 the money....
