I decided to test myself for the first time in about a year today, got a friend to time me, I managed to get 94 seconds, was pretty happy, started at 60, went for 90, after like 20 tries I finally got 94 lol

Think the last time I actually tried I was up around a minute and a half. That's probably been 8 or 9 years though, lol.

Did you know you can increase the time by hyper ventilating. The thing that makes want to exhale is not loss of oxygen in the air in your lungs but, the build up CO2. There's a technique I learned while scuba diving. Free divers mostly use it. Basically you want to inhale and exhale really fast three times. This get's rid of more CO2 outta your blood stream. Try it and retest...I'm curious.
One thing I should mention is never do this in the water. It can lead to whats called shallow water blackout...Meaning you pass out under water. BAD

My dad always told me to exhale and inhale really quickly like 10 times before I ever tried to hold my breathe really long because it would help. I never knew why tho but yeah mapes that technique works for sho

OMG, I haven't tried this in so long. In my younger days I could do a couple minutes max, I'd probably pass out if I tried now

I can hold my breath for about 10 seconds. Maybe 12. I've had Asthma since birth, and my lung capacity is almost non-existent. I haven't had any kind of attack since I was about 8 or 9, but I really can't hold my breath for long, or inhale very deeply.

My max was about 2m5s when I tried at the end of one of my PADI certs.
And mapes is correct, hyperventilating to increase the amount of time you can hold your breath underwater is very dangerous. You get rid of so much carbon dioxide from your bloodstream, you actually run out of available oxygen in your lungs long before you feel the need to breathe. This will lead to blackouts and blackouts underwater = bad.
