Comcast to restrict monthly broadband use

I don't think my combined download/upload reaches 250gigs, but it'd still be nice to know how much i've used.

"The company, however, has no immediate plans to release a meter for customers to track their own usage."

anyone know how much data is sent from playing online games?

Comcast to Cap Data Transfers at 250 GB in Oct. - News and Analysis by PC Magazine

Another article. Read this earlier and forgot to post it. God I love Comcast... You can get something like DUmeter ( DU Meter Home Page ) that will track it for you. I use it at home just to have an idea what I do. If you're transferring files over your network though, or use more than one computer, this is a tracker only for a single computer. You'd have to export the data and add it up, or combine it in a database somehow to track total usage if you have more than one computer. It's nice for what it does though.

Comcast doesn't even have as many real hdtv channels as it says it does either... They lie about everything. This policy won't last very long either I bet.. I don't even think their going to enforce it much either.. They always want to take money in, and that canceling of the account thing is just WHARRGARBL!!!1!! Who are they kidding.. lol

It's pretty hard to even cancel a Comcast account regularly w/o getting talked to for 15mins about how good there sh3t stinks like roses.

Who controls most of the cable-lines these days anyway?

I am so glad I kicked my cable company to the curb a long time ago.

I did that recently, but my current option is Embarq DSL, so now I've gone from crappy service to crappy service combined with frequent outages and slow speed. Sadly, I'll have to go back to Comcast soon.

About a year ago my area got Fios service from Verizon. I decided I would give it a shot, and it has been a great investment. I have the "bundle" of t.v/phone/internet and it is actually a great deal as it is cheaper than the dsl/phone/t.v. that I paid for before.

Just recently Verizon decided to improve my speeds for free (from 5/2 to 20/10) because of supposed competition. I like this!

As for the topic on hand, I don't really know how this would effect me. I have absolutely NO idea how much bandwidth I use, and I don't want to plan to watch it either. I hope this doesn't become a norm.

If they start crap like this I'll drop them faster than a hot potato.

When I first switched I had verizon and they sold out to Fair Point. So far it's good but I fear it may start to slide into crappy service. I don't know what I'll do then. I have a great deal with my Dish1 network that I would hate to give up.

250Gb is nothing. We have ISP's that limit to around 40gb p/m. Thankfully mine doesn't, hence some months i can hit 500GB.

How much of that 40G would be gaming?

Probably not much. Depends how often you game i guess. Say 3 hours each evening, every day, would probably hit somewhere just over 1gb for the average game.

So it counts basically any movement of packets even if there not full files, like images, or videos etc?

Here's a nice song to get you using up that bandwidth!!

The only broad band choice for where I live is ONLY Comcast....if I want to change Broadband providers, I would have to buy a new house.

Believe it or not I STILL Can't get DSL for my residence.

Having tried many cases I've given up on expensive ones. Not convinced they are significantly better than an inexpensive gel case for 1/10 the money....
