Some Examples:
Homeland Security and the Dept of Def use Google Maps and they pay for it each year.
Business Apps is growing year in and year out, and the average deal size is pretty significant (say at least $300k for enterprise deals). These are hosted, so its' not software sales, its revenue that is recurring. Much more stable than software, which you only accrue revenue at the time of sale or when they buy additional features.
I think the public is ignorant to many of the business aspects at Google because the Ads are mainstream. They are quietly taking over business applications that they already host, and doing it better than the IT departments that used to run these environments.
