Our government hard at work again...

System administrator steals almost 20,000 pieces of computer gear | NetworkWorld.com Community

I really don't understand how someone can get away with stealing hardware on that massive of a scale. Oh wait, it's the government he was stealing from...

    Hah

Steal all you want, we'll pay more!

Anyway, we'll easily pass any additional spending bills for the military (see the billions lost in Iraq [oh, much of it was to buy peace from local warlords...I suppose...so it's not really lost, simply untraceable {see what happens when these funds dry up}]), so it won't be a problem replacing these parts.

What can we do? As we are only a few people in a 250Million legal resident country... 50Mil of illegals sound about right... right? How about cut off welfare (cut off those stupid teenage mothers too, ruining our rep as well as our money, lazy bums), spending on crap we don't need like a bridge to nowhere, or even lower the cost of healthcare... 2,000 bucks for an X-ray and a check up is a bit too much

I'm thinking work farms instead of welfare...doesn't sound pleasing? Neither does paying taxes for other folks' kids. Hard choices have to be made for this epidemic...it shouldn't be easy to drop out of school and collect. Any thoughts?

You know when it comes to illegal immigrants I'm hard pressed to hate em. Yes there are bad ones that come in and cause crime and those folks need to be stopped from entering. However this nation is founded on immigrants. I'm very very hard pressed to criminalize people for trying for a better life. A lot is made of the negatives of people coming here however what about the positives

I'm certainly not going to dig trenches or pick strawberries. Social security is getting a ton of money that will never be used. Also the best and brightest want to come here. We should encourage that as that is what makes this country strong in technology and science. So I guess what I'm saying is in short yes we should not be letting undesirables in but people who come here and work should be allowed to.

I don't think cutting off welfare is the best thing to do. Certainly putting in place some regulation to make sure welfare is going to people who are trying to better them selves(i.e job or school training) or are trying to get work is essential.

I've known three people who went from living on the street as runaways (due to some pretty horrific home lives and child abuse) to becoming highly paid software programmers who pay lots of taxes. Clearly thats what welfare is about. The more people we can get into productive jobs the better off we all are...

reducing health care costs is obviously a good idea

I have no problems with people who come here and want to work, raise their families, live a better life...think of how bad things must be for someone to want to walk 100s of miles through the desert, risk incarceration, etc.

When I spoke of work farms I was referring to the increase in single, teen mothers...fathers not paying support, etc. The parents don't make it through school, and chances are their lack of education filters into the children. The cycle continues, and it will take hard choices to break it. I've heard kids on my bus during the middle of the day, when they should be in school. One conversation that sticks out in my mind:

"Is your momma on Section 8 (housing/living assistance), my momma is and she says it's a picnic. She gets cab rides for free and only pays $100 for rent."

The other replied, and this made me shudder, "no, we on the waiting list".

How do you break that mentality, that is taught by the parent? Why, if it's easy, would they try to change their lifestyle? That's where I think a work farm, work for food, for shelter, might be worth looking into. They shouldn't have to starve, but they shouldn't be enabled to live a parasitic life either.
