No, China wants this in order to reverse engineer systems for their corporations, so that they can outbid and outsell our corporations. They also want to reverse engineer the security so that they can hack and track whatever they want. I hope everyone tells them to piss off.
There isn't a company on Earth that would risk their entire operation just to sell in China after this requirement is put in place. Even corporate drones and fat-cat execs are smart enough to realize that this would endanger their future source of income just to make the quick buck now.
I'm actually happy to see this. Anything that starts to slow China down is a good thing now.
The motives a unclear. It very possibly could be to steal proprietary information for their own industry. But they seem to be able to build good stuff on their own. They may also be paranoid about the infiltration of malware. If you remember we shut down Iraqs radar system in the Gulf War because of some printers they bought that were loaded with viruses. China may be afraid of the same thing. I have hopes that China may become a good trading partner but the balance of trade needs to be evened out. Also I fear what they might do if they get malware into this country if they havn't already. Or if they steal trade secrets from our companies.
