Tommy Fox ran over the fox last Wednesday near Dover, Tenn., as he returned home from work, the Leaf Chronicle reports.

Thinking the animal was dead, he decided to take the animal home to cut off its tail as a souvenir, Dale Grandstaff of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency told the paper.

"The tails are real bushy and pretty and thick this time of year," Grandstaff said.

Instead, the driver flipped his GMC Jimmy trying to keep the fox ? that had awoken in the backseat ? from biting him, Grandstaff told the paper.

Fox suffered minor injuries and bruises, the Leaf Chronicle reports. The fox died, though it was unclear if it was from initial injuries or the subsequent wreck of the vehicle.

I'm an animal lover, so I wish the guy had been smart enough to at least seatbelt the poor thing in place.

Well, he thought the thing was dead. If you found a dead human in the road and wanted to bring it to the cops, would you buckle it up? (granted, you?d probably just call the cops, I?m just saying).

Although I do think that its pretty demented to get a dead fox and even think about cutting off its tail? that is horrible.

I hope the fox bit the guy in his tail and got it infected.
I also hope he had no insurance on his truck.

Personally I dont think there is anything wrong with taking the tail off the fox. Its the same thing as hunting an animal and using the parts from it. Since he hit it and thought it was dead might as well make use of the tail in some way.
