Not fair in the least. You are punishing people, for what a great deal of times, is genetic. It's another case of the government picking out a select group of people and picking on them.
Sure, it's all fine and good when your not in that group. But realize that one day you, must likely, will become part of a group that gets singled out.
Never allow the government to take away a group's rights. Once it gets started there is no stopping it.A change of Pace.

I understand the idea behind this, but like paceman said, I think its a very very dangerous road to go down.
While overweight people do cost more on a health system, putting in a tax is not the right way to go about it.
The source of the problem, or one of, is the food that is available for people to eat being so unhealthy. Chocolate bars, Mcdonalds,... things laced with transfats that are so utterly horrible on your body.
Aim to fix these issues.
On the genetic issue, I'm not sure that most of the overweight people are overweight due to genetics. I would think that genetics plays an important part in it for a minority of people. The rest simply don't exercise, watch TV, eat pizza and so on.[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

I think its a bad idea. First its overweight people then smokers then who knows? How about people who use ear buds because of the cost of their hearing aids down the road or people who spend too much time on the computer because of eye strain. It's another way of a government getting involved in peoples everyday decisions.
Now when you throw in taxpayer financed health care they you have no choice...
