Taken out by a Wasp sting

I'm gonna miss work this weekend because of a wasp sting I got 5 years ago! In 2003 I was living in Louisiana. I was walking into the garage and felt something land on the bak of my neck. When I slapped at the back of my neck, I got stung. It was one of those iridescent blue mud daubers. These things rarely sting anyone unless you put your hand on them. Aren't I lucky? The sting healed but left a tiny bump on my neck. I thought it was just some scar tissue under the skin. Over the years it grew a little but not enough to bother me. But in the last few days it suddenly exploded to silver dollar size and started hurting like hell. I went to work and showed the company nurse. She sent me to the doctor. Now I gotta have intravenous antibiotic treatment for the next 3-4 days and they will most likely do some cutting on me Sunday.

    Ain't life grand?!

My wife went through a serious infection due to a cat bite, but it was next day thing, not 5 years later!
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.

Did it leave part of the stinger in, or was it carrying some kind of infection?
