    I HATE Pep Boys!

I just had an oil change on my car, first time I've let anyone other than the dealership touch it. I'm about to make a 2000mile trip in the car and it's due for an oil change. The dealership couldn't get to it in time, so I figure Pep Boys should be able to do a simple oil change, right?! I pay $60 for the oil change, I always opt for synthetic, but $60? A dealership is half that! Anyway, they spend just over 45min on my car (though no one is in line ahead of me).
When I get home, I figured I better check things out. I've heard stories from people taking their car to Walmart and driving home with only the oil in the crankcase. It's OVERFILLED by over a 1/4! I call them up... after holding for about half an hour while they hunt down the guy that did it, they say come back in and we'll fix it. This is a 30 mile trip.. but ok, they're paying if it screws up my engine.

Not only do they refill it with regular oil, they spilled it down the front of the engine and didn't so much as try to wipe it off, and no one offered any form of an apology for making such an idiotic mistake, wasting my time, fuel and potentially damaging my engine.. I'm not even calling them back to complain, I'm done with these *&@#$%^!

    Just needed to vent

What kind of dealership gives an synthetic oil change for 30 bucks my buddy's wife just took his car back to the dealership for a new windshield wiper they charged her 67 dollars for installation on one wiper plus 17 dollars for the wiper. a dealership is usually the last place you want to get your car serviced.

LOL This is what caught my eye.

I change my own oil because the guys they have changing it usually are the noobs. Autozone just had a deal where 5 Qts or synthetic oil plus filter were around $30.00. I would also call and complain. Get then name of the mechanic that spilt the oil and say that if you want to have a messy oil job you would have done it yourself. Remember that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. LOL

If you buy a new car every couple of years, you tend to be under warranty for just about anything but oil changes and tire rotations. If you buy from the same dealership regularly and also use their service center, you can get discounts on most things.

If you didn't buy a new car from them, then yes, you will pay insane sums of money for every little thing they do.

Having them do all warranty required maintenance insures that my warranty isn't voided just because I can't prove the car was maintained properly. It helps me get a higher value for the car when I'm done with it, and if something goes wrong, it's easier to point the finger at them.

I also happen to live in a community with some absurd rules, one of which is that you can't do oil changes or other mechanical maintenance on your vehicle in your driveway. And I don't have a garage.

Ah HOA's been there and done that. Thank god my garage is attached to my house...that means they can go and errr well you get the idea...

If you opt to change the oil yourself all that you need to do is to keep a notebook of when and at what mileage you changed your oil and your warranty is fine.

One other note on why to avoid those quick change oil places. It's seems that those places are the largest buyers of rubber expanding oil drain plugs. The reason is they have a tendency to over torque the drain bolt and strip threads. They don't fix your f'd up drain bolt hole threads they just place in one of those rubber grommets and you have no idea til the next oil change.

Do you pay for your house and land? And if so did you sign an agreement stating that you would abide by certain rules and regulations for the area you are in? If no then change your oil if you want and there's nothing they can do about it. Simple as that.

I sure he had to sign in order to buy the house. I went through the same thing. They tried to ban working on vehicles even in your own garage. However if the garage is attached to the house they have no legal leg to stand on because it's considered part of you house.
