I'm always excited meeting all the new folks and playing all the newer games but....




I have said it before and will say it again and again....

UT2K4 - ONS brought a level of teamwork that is unsurpassed even today.

They were a fine class of ladies & gentlemen.
Of course I'm basis to this game since its what brought me here.

That's why. Go back into the past in about 2005-2006, get BF2 and play on Cain's server and join apaches squad. Best teamwork, most fun, and it was always depressing when Apache signed out. If that man knows anything, it's how to run a squad on BF2. The second he logged into the server and made a new squad, 6 people would join it, even non CLRs. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of people that joined during BF2 said it was because they played with the CLRs that joined Apaches Squad.

As for 2142, I hate to admit it, but I was disappionted in Cains Lair, but that wasn't their fault or Cain's fault. I really really really wish Cain would have decided to ban RDX hoppers, since it's not suppose to be part of the game and ruins the whole Titan Assault fun, but they were let free to do their lame ass crap. That ruined 2142 for me, and the whole knifing part. I loved knifing, enjoyed running around with good ol' "insert sirex here" (speaking of which, where is Sirex? is he running around with a new name?). But it got annoying when a lot of people decided they wanted my tags after I got theirs, and I had about 50 people running after me. And it was never fun having people challenge me to knife fights, winning and bragging about it here on the Lair.

Sure I bragged, but in a knife fight, no matter what someone is going to get the others tags, and it was down to whoever was the best or had the least lag. I lost my tags a lot back then because I'd slash someone in the face and it wouldn't register but they'd somehow get me.


But that's just my PoV. As for CoD... nade spam ruined it completely for me. It was a fun game, had a lot of fun going for the golds. But dying 99% of the time because of someone throwing a careless nade just blew me off completely.

My favorite has to be BF2. I joined when CoD4 was just starting up in the Lair and Cain's was definitely the best server around. Then Cain tried the revival of BF2 and because I heard so much about it from everyone I got it and instantly fell in love. Sadly it only lasted a little bit but I miss driving around with Major in the tanks and sneaking behind enemy lines with the fine folks of the Lair. Too bad we cant get a reunion tour going. :P

I’ve played the following at Cains: DOD 1.3, UT:2k4 ONS and some CTF, DOD:S, TF2, BF2. I played a month of BF2142 but didn’t like the game and never played COD4 here at the Lair.

UT:2k4 ONS wins hands down for me.

While BF2 actually had squad based play, I found that overall teamwork was at its best in ONS. BF2 squads usually had teamwork within them, but rarely amongst each other.

ONS had such a mix of fast paced, great vehicles and an ease of use so that most people could be somewhat productive in any vehicle. Someone who mastered the vehicle was heads above the rest, but that didn’t make n00bs total fodder (well, not usually).

There was a high quality of dedicated players in that server. People I would see day in and day out who would be truly class players.

It was THE game that really made me feel part of a community of equals and not one where people are ranked higher in server popularity making them switch sides and elitist attitudes as I’ve seen on other servers.

We also had Titan’s, which was the second busiest 64 man server over in the UK that we had some scrims against, once again bolstering the UT 2k4 community here.

I’ve never laughed so much in any game, had so many competitive and fun matches then I have in UT 2k4 here at the Lair.

I started playing here a month or so before Vito. Met people like Rand, Duke, Tuck, Pam, Pam’s hubby, Thor, dirtyoldgoat, Bliss, Kurlon, slug, Tuqui, Major Death, Ratt, Slayer, Mucko, Pain Killer, Killa Rabbit, Juneau, Gene, Nomadicus, Pinky, Slaughter, Snake Eyes, Fluffy, Acacia, and so many other people who, even though some I may not of seen in game in years, are characters that are hard to forget.

I miss the green links of love healing my Goliath tank in ONS.

You all want to know what's funny, and what some of you may not believe who didn't play it? More people used the VOIP in ONS than in ANY other game Cain has run since I've been here.

Including BF 2.

What's interesting about that is the VOIP system in ONS is team-global, not squad-based. Yet we had an absolute blast with it whether teasing one another, talking about random stuff, or having six people try to lead mini-groups around.

I started with CS. Then CSS and DOD and DODS. I tried to play UT but, never enjoyed it. I played BF2, BF2142 numerous other games Cain put up for a short while. Games Like HL2 DM and he even put up a HL1 Server a few years back. If you want to be killed by Cain play HL1 against him. He totally owned every one. I played COD4 and am now playing COD5 and waiting for the server to start up.

Well for those of you who played with me... I'm sure you all know I vote BF2 FTW!!! It was one of the greatest games I've ever played regardless of its pitfalls.... (I miss our server)

I started with UT 2k4 and continued with BF 2142 here at the lair. Currently I'm looking into the games running here so I can decide which to buy.
