    The death of Common Sense

    Got this one by email.
It made me laugh, but it also made me think how sad it really is.

    ____________________________________

Obituary Common Sense Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a Band-Aid to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Well everything else in it is fine however I do have issue with a couple of cases here. The coffee cup thing...what can I say ...has anyone here read the court transcripts...I have. The McDonalds coffee gave this lady 2nd degree burns and McDonalds had had numerous complaints about how hot the coffee was. In fact they're machine was malfunctioning. They chose to disregard the complaints and this lady got burned. She initally ask for just her medical cost to be covered however McD's said no....

As for the 10 commandments getting banned thats a reference to a Government building ...a court house in OK I believe. Yes there should be a separation of church and state.

Lastly the criminal thing until they're tried in a court of law and found guilty there not criminals (unless your considered an enemy combatant)
If you honestly think that jail is a walk in the park....um I think you have the wrong idea.

Though I have though that common sense has been dwindling, like mapes, I find a few of those examples shouldn't be in there. Basically the same ones mapes talked about.
A few years ago my brother and I decided that sense was no longer common, and so we called it uncommon sense.

+1 on the coffee. I think that people have a reasonable expectation of safety from severe burns to their genitalia upon ordering a coffee in the drive through. The pictures sealed the case for me, to be honest.

I agree with the prison part as well--next time AlleyViper is about, he can chime in, but I'm not exacty dying to go there myself.

        Everything else, A+.

I have a hard time with the "seperation of church and state" argument. People say it's in the Constitution, but it is not.

In the 1st amendment it says
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ."

That's it, that's all, nothing more. So how is posting the Ten commandments in anyway a violation of that? If anything it is a violation of the prohibition of free exercise.

I believe thats establishing a religion in a government building. Obviously if they had more to it than religion like say they were works of art too then that would be fine however just publishing the 10 comandments by itself is pretty pro Christian.

The founders may have not been super clear in the writing of the constitution. However they're intent is quite obvious when reading other documents...Such as Jefferson

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."
              Or Madison

... no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.

How does that establish a religion? It certainly doesn't make it law because it's displayed in a public building.
Also the 10 commandments are in the old testament, it applies to more religions than just Christians.

All good quotes. And they do give more guidance as to what the framers of the constitution had in mind. But it still does not say that you can't display things, or pray, or whatever in a government building.

be careful with this 10 commandments thing... people have been murdered over taking away religious things here in the south. No joke
I heard on my favorite morning radio show that the family of the lady who started the movement to remove the 10 commandments out of schools all ended up sliced and diced and packed into trash cans.
A kid was beat to a pulp about 5 days ago in my school for tearing a sign of "In God We Trust" off the classroom walls. And yes, every classroom in the Mooresville Graded School District is required to have one of those signs on the wall; preferably next to the door. (welcome to the Bible belt)
And the way things are goin in the world today, the smallest thing is gonna snowball into WWIII. Some fool in congress is gonna say "I hate these murdering muslims," and the entire middle-east is gonna go jihad.

Be careful what you sow, for you shall reap it.
