Ok so is the Windows 7 os gonna make the vista os obsolete in a year, because i dont feel like paying for windows 7, im in a finacial pit, im in hs and i spend all my money on gas, i dont think i could afford the new os when it comes out or at least until 2 years from now when im 18 and can work more hours in the week.

Ok, they have their distro fixed. I downloaded using the link posted here and I have the download for S&Gs started using their website links at
          Windows 7 Beta Customer Preview

The key is also provided here, but you won't need it for activation until the 30 day period is up. Just like the regular activation cycle. I'm currently getting over 500KBps so they figured out the load issue

Got my key and ISO, but have a seriously infected customer PC that is occupying my weekend so far.

Finished installing, no problems and NAT is working great with Intel Pro 1000 MT in the xVM session.

Well I am slightly ticked off !!! Two of my higher end rigs and two coasters !!! I finally gave up and burned the DVD on my Media Center rig and that worked flawlessly. The only difference I can see is that both gamer rigs have games (duh) installed such as Fallout 3.
Is there is possibility that some flakey Securom crap is causing my DVD burners to falter ? All three tried to burn the same brand of media @ 16x, and the oldest DVD/RW drive in my HTPC burns it perfectly .. go figure.

What speed did you burn them at? I always burn them at the slowest speed possible if it's something critical like an install disk like this. I've had trouble in the past where the high speeds led to bad disks. I also had something corrupted in a download earlier, that was fixed by redownloading it.

Concerning xVM ,I forgot to mention these things, sorry bout that, but here ya go.

First if you use the xVM to install and try Win7 you don't need a DVD burned just use the ISO image to install
You can do this by opening the Virtual Media manager from VirtualBox (CTRL+D or File > Virtual Media Manager...)
Then click the CD/DVD images tab and click the Add button above the tabs. Browse to the location and select the .iso image you downloaded, wa la, you have a setting to use when booting the xVM machine.
To use this mapped iso image select it after you start the virtual session by selecting Devices > Mount CD/DVD-ROM and select the CD/DVD-ROM Image...
Then select the image from the CD/DVD Images tab and click the select button.

Concerning the Video Memory Size Ram setting, I recommend you at least set it to use 64 MB. This will give you enough Video ram to set your resolution up to a usable setting.

If you want to be able to browse you local network resources this can be a little more fun
I'm not going to go into it unless someone want the files I made to make it quicker and easier and the syntax of the commands.

Also, ensure you use the Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop Adapter Type: unders the Network setting for Adapter 1. This is the compatible NIC for Windows 7 and Vista

                          Good luck and have fun.

Well, MS updates won't find drivers for my video card (8800GTX) for me, and it's not looking pretty enough! I was reading that the latest Vista drivers will all work for Windows 7 though so I'm downloading to try now, we'll see how it works out. Also not sure how it's going to work out since I'm running in a Virtual Machine on xVM.

Edit: yeah, looks to be virtual box related now that I dug in to current display adapters and whatnot further. Although when I run the Vista version drivers it does display it as Windows 7 setup, so it looks to be true about the current Vista drivers working for Windows 7, if anyone is doing an actual install.

As far as I know the virtual machine doesn't use the actually video drivers for the card you have installed. It should use a standard VGA Graphics Adapter since it's really using a virtual driver. To see real performance you will have to install it on your machine. The reason I didn't do that is because I don't want to take the chance yet of it messing with my master boot record and partitions. I'll save that for when it is actually release as final

Agreed, I was thinking of actually installing it but I had trouble when I installed the Vista beta, so I decided a Virtual Machine was the best idea.
