    Upgrading soon

Well I decided I am going to do a complete overhaul of mah system with my tax return this yr other then my GPU and PSU cause I upgraded them a few months ago...I jus need opions on CPU...

I have always been an AMD guy never Intel excep back in the day...I am going to be going quad, $$ wont be an issue, but my question is Intel or AMD?? Any advice is appreciated

Intel Core i7 if you can afford it, Core2Quad if not. Even the lower cost/spec Intels completely blow any AMD chips out of the water currently. I used AMD for all my past builds as well, except the very most recent one.

Looking good Zantheus...my only question...what OS are you using? If it's a 64 bit you may want to upgrade to 6GB of RAM with 2GB in each DIMM

          Newegg is cheaper.

I have this board except it is a Core2 Quad and love it.

                Few questions.

When do you next plan to upgrade (roughly)?
                Do you video/audio encode?
Have you seen this wonderful thread about Seagates current problems?
                http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/...thread.id=3283
Good case = Lian Li. Don't go Raidmax or any of that other fluff.

Somebody clue Trooper in on how to reply to the PM I sent him over a week ago !

Best CPU bang for the buck = Q6600 or a 7200 OC'd to hell -n- back.

Best GPU bang for the buck = 4850 (or to splurge a 4850x2).

I meant after this upgrade. Reason why i asked, and the question about video encoding is that nothing really takes advantage of Quad Core. It maybe useful if things pick up in say the next 12-18months but anything after that will probably require more power than your Q6600 can give. I suggest the 7200 as WT stated or something in the 8XXX range if you're not overclocking friendly.

HDD's i pretty much swear by WD. However Samsungs offerings are quite good right now.

Ill check out the WD drives.... and when it comes to CPU..... after I overclock the crap out of the Intel Core i7 940 Processor BX80601940 - 2.93GHz, I think it will be able to take me a few years into the newer high demand stuff...still shopping around though....I have a month to gather your opinions and do some research on my own before I make a decision

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
