Now I am never run a system in RAID before....would you guys suggest that I run in RAID to improve performance? If so, what RAID setup would be best for my drives?

Now off to OC the CPU and my RAM...currently the ram is only posting 600mhz

Don't you have to setup Raid before installing Vista? You need 2 or more similar drives for Raid. You have 2 drives, one 640Gb and one 1Tb. I'd just leave them as single drives as they're fast enough as it is.

I would get a better cooler before overclocking your CPU tbh.

Skip the RAID. Like Juneau said, you want matching drives, not different sized ones like you have.

Technically, yes you CAN RAID them, but the larger drive is then redced to the size of a smaller drive, so your TB drive then becomes a 640gb drive. Also, the drives should match for cache size for best throughput as well.

I wouldn't have built it without the Tuniq, as you may have to remove the board to mount a backplate, so now all that work to put it in place as wasted effort.

yea I thought of that but was too eager to get it running LOL. I have an issue with my ram. It is only posting 533mhz and they ate 1866 dimms. I have never oc'd ram before so am wondering if any of you could inform me how to raise it's speed safely. All the timings and voltages are default right now

Errr, I dunno how teh X58 boards work (overclocking was completely changed due to the removal of the frontside bus .. its now on-die just like the older AMD Athlon chips) so the 533 you are getting is actually quad pumped, so 533x4=2133. You are actually running the RAM overspec at this point.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong please !

For good price Z you should consider DirectCanada, much more better price than Tiger that suck when it comes to price...

                    Example :

                    Intel Core i7 940 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 2.93GHZ Bloomfield 8MB LGA1366 4.8GT/S - DirectCanada

I7 940 - 733$ instead of 800$ at tiger The 70$ margin is to consider whether money is not a problem

There's also NCIX that make great deal, but DirectCanada still cheaper, but if you prefer NCIX, there's always price match on their site

I got a BFG GTX280 1Gb at NCIX on one of their weekly sale for 329$ instead of 529$, that was such a great deal :P

For anyone looking at buying i7, the 940 is essentially wasted $$$. The 920 is every bit its equal, and the ONLY chip that even offers up anything as a bonus is the 965EE, but with its HUGE price disadvantage, its hardly even worth the purchase unless you have a burning desire to squeeze every ounce of performance from your rig, but pay $500+ to do so.

The 920s are good up to about 3.8+ on air, but if you have any hopes and dreams of hitting 4ghz+, you need WC.
